I replaced ignition lock on 2002 sc. Now the security light comes on and it wont start. Is there a reset using the key? Any info would be helpful. Thanks

You could get the new lock re-done to match your old keys or get the dealer to program your new keys into the system. |

This may sound like an obvious question, but did you plug the PasslockII wiring harness connector back into the new ignition lock?

You will need to perform the 30 minute passlock relearn after replacing the ignition cylinder. Basicly three rounds of turning the key to the crank position, release to run and letting it sit for 10 minutes or the security light goes off. Normally the light doesnot go off. Turn key off and repeat. After the third time the car should start.

I had forgotten about that. To clarify:
1. Turn the key to START briefly and then back to "RUN" (the car will not start) 2. Once you have done this, leave the car in "RUN" (NOT ACCESSORY and DO NOT turn it to "LOCK!"!) for ten minutes, or until the Security light goes out (which ever happens first) 3. Turn the key to "OFF" and then return to step #1. 4. Repeat a total of 3 times (total elapsed time 30+/- minutes) 5. When you have completed the above, the car should start and run normally and will continue to do so from then on. NOTE: If at any time the car DOES actually start and run, you are DONE and do not need to continue to repeat the sequence. (I forgot the ignition switch itself is what holds the security code (resistance value) in the PasslockII system. (Thanks Ssicarman!)

Use this procedure after replacing:
Passlock™ sensor BCM PCM Learn Procedures There are 2 available methods to perform the programming procedure: A 10-minute procedure which requires a Tech 2 and a techline terminal. A 30-minute procedure which does not require the use of any tools. 10-Minute Learn Procedure Tools Required Tech 2 Techline terminal with current Service Programming System (SPS) software Connect the Tech 2 to the vehicle. Select "Request Information" under "Service Programming". Disconnect the Tech 2 from the vehicle and connect it to a techline terminal. On the techline terminal, select "Theft Module Re-Learn" under "Service Programming". Disconnect the Tech 2 from the techline terminal and connect it to the vehicle. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Select "VTD Re-Learn" under "Service Programming". Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF, the vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock™ Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds. Start the engine, the vehicle has now learned the password. With the Tech 2 scan tool, clear any DTCs. 30-Minute Learn Procedure Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds. Repeat steps 1-4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock™ Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. Important The vehicle learns the Passlock™ Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock™ Sensor Data Code and/or password. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.

I am glad to have confirmation on here of what the service guy at a dealership told me! They wanted $295 to replace a ignition cylinder! I can find it online for $48!

I have done this before. One weird thing that happened to me. (probably goofed the first time, idk) is it took four times vs the three.
Edit. Mine is a stick, with safety bypassed, and didn't have to use the clutch at all. It was an auto before....

Benny6565, why was the engine computer replaced? As mentioned, there are a total of four(4) ignition switch cycles with the first three cycles each needing ten minutes with ignition on. The last (forth) try is actually starting the engine when the fuel password is learned. Pressing the clutch pedal down isn't needed for this since you're not in gear.

I have tried to follow these instructions (3 step, 30' reset) but my security light does not turn off after ten minutes. Tried waiting longer, and it still stayed on. Suggestions?

I tried the method just using time and that did not work. The 'security' light stayed lit, and the car would still not start. Any other steps that need taking in order to get the system to reset?

Maybe it's time to find somebody with a tech II.
