Default Exhausts

I went to cole muffler and monoe muffler to see about a custom exhuast and basicly they told me 6-700 bucks b/c they would have to do blah blah blah, they weren't relly interested in my business and there is nothing around me for custom cars. i was wondering if http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33630

will fit the sedan??
Thnx for any help.

Yes It will!! I have that exhaust and it rocks.

I have the sedan also...

One thing thou, you'll have to either trim the rear bumper about 1/4" or bend the muffler hanger a little bit or it will slightly burn the bumper (melt it a little, not noticable)

But its WEEEELLLL worth the 250.... it sounds sooo good. Nice and deep and pops on downshifts

Only thing I didnt like was the huge tip which im going to get cut off and have a smaller one put on this spring.

Now just one question because I am more of a technical person. I understand that putting on an exhaust will help a bit for horse power but on a 2-2.5L 4cyl the max pipe size NA should be 2.25" and max FI should be 3" or so. Now that is mandrel bent, if it were crush bent I could see 2.5". Isn't this one a bit big thought. I mean the pop that you get is probably a slight back flow into the exhaust which isn't good. What do the more technical people think about this?

2.5 is fine.. I noticed a big difference after 4.5K in my manny tranny Ion.

It may be a LITTLE too big... but I dont think you would see more than a 2-3% variance between the 2.25's torque gain but a little less HP, and the 2.5's torque loss and a tad more HP.

In no way will that hurt your car.... use a long pipe and VERY LIGHTLY bend the rear hanger on the muffler (of the new exhaust) so it doesnt touch the bumper of the Sedan... or just get a dremmel or a file, and cut about 1/4" of a inch away from the bumper where it touches the TIP.

Good luck, and if you have any more questions, feel free to shoot.

2.5" is pushing it a little for the exhuast flow, but not too much since the stock is ~1 7/8"

This will not harm your engine unless you gut your cat. Then you risk messing up your valves. I have had plenty of people say "I gutted mine and it didnt hurt me" just to tell me a year later how their engine runs like crap. I guess i got my ASE certification for nothing.

You car does need some back pressure.
The more you open your exhaust, the more low end you lose, top end you gain. If you are going 1/4 mile or stop light to stop light, you dont need a huge exhaust if you are N/A.

I know I am draggin up an old thread but could someone with the Ebay exhaust get me a sound clip? I have priced out a custom exhaust and this may be the way I am forced to go money wise. I mean I guess I could save up for one of the nice stainless 2.25" setups but they are crazy expencive and I can't really see spending that on an exhaust that is mostly for show.

I can make you a LOUD ASS good looking exhaust cheap. but just trying to be loud could go from show, to slow. remember that

Ditto. I've heard SO MANY people say that their exhaust sounds DEEP & THROATY, which to me you can naver obtain with a 4 cylinder. DEEP & THROATY to me is a good sounding V8. Closest thing I've heard that wasn't a V8 were the mid early 90's Chevy Cavalier Z26's with the V6.

Apparently the trend has changed since every <insert 4-banger car here> that has a "DEEP & THROATY" exhaust that I've heard.....well, let's just say I think my 31cc weed-eater sounds better that those exhausts.

I was cool before all these Hondas around here were thinking of cool. The exhaust pipe on my first car rusted out 2 or 3 times & sounded JUST LIKE all the Hondas in this area. I was freaking embarassed when that happened. Maybe I should have left it that way because I was really cool.

Where the hell did that come from, this is a sport compaq website...get used to people that like to mod out 4 bangers. You should have re read the posts. I know there is such a thing as too big when it comes too exhaust. I am looking for a slightly larger more free flowing exhaust that is relatively quiet. This is why I am looking for a sound clip. I do also like the looks of a nice but small chrome tip out the back, this is the show part, but to each their own. I am trying to do this on a buget...too old to be spending rediculous money on my car that is why I am wonder about the exhaust that is not perfect but way less money.

Woah! Didn't mean to be critical, though it probably does read that way. I'm just saying I've heard a lot of people refer to an exhaust on a 4-cyl & I've yet to hear something that sounds either deep or throaty from a 4-cyl. I hear loud & buzzy or raspy. To me, deep is a rumble.

Maybe I'm being critical because this area is chock-full of kids with fart cans, revving them in parking lots & sounding like buzzy, back-firing junkers.....much like my old 87 Plymouth Duster when the exhaust rusted off.

Sorry, didn't mean to be critical, but I'd still love to hear a throaty & deep 4 cyl.

Oh I agree but I am not looking so much for the sound, well I am I guess just not to loud. I will agree that there are basically to types, raspy and deep single tone(pprobably what some consider buzzy). the V8's get that nice rumble to them and trust me I love that too...hell even more but I'm sorry I can afford $2.15US/gal and be getting 17MPG. If I could I would still have my '68 Mustang. To be very precise as to what I am looking for, I need a nice stailess muffler that isn't too loud and piping that isn't too retard big for the engine size. I just don't wanna pay $250 bucks and not be happy with the exhaust then have to pay $350 plus for a custom or $450 plus for one from HKS or Thermal. Sorry for taking you the wrong way but it did kinda come off harsh. So anyone with a sound clip??? PLEASE
