Default Help!

I have a 2002 SL1 5 speed

I have it set up as a racecar in a 4 cylinder division. I’m trying to use a ECU from a automatic to get a higher rev limit out of it but when putting it in, the car starts then dies. Is there anyway around this? Or does anything know of a way to get a little more power out of the single cam sl1?

1-You mistakenly posted in the L-series forums where you should be posting in the S-series tech forums. (Minor point)

2-All Saturns made from model year 2000+ incorporate a body control module (BCM) as more electronics overwhelms the pcm. Passlock is factory security added to Saturns and uses a fuel password as a security message between pcm and bcm. If you didn't perform a relearn procedure, the result is the bcm not recognizing the pcm and not sending a fuel password to the pcm to allow it to run the engine - injectors are disabled, a theft deterrent feature of Passlock. Pcm and bcm married and whenever a replacement pcm or bcm is used, a relearn procedure is performed to marry the new part to the other one. GM uses their scantool to marry pcm to bcm in ten minutes. At home, a relearn procedure requires thirty minutes (without GM's scantool). Search for the procedure, posted many times here. Basically it requires turning on ignition and waiting ten minutes for security to change state, cycling ignition off and repeating this two more times. The fourth ignition cycle should allow starting.

Awesome I will try it! I had to do a similar thing when my car went into theft mode after removing the cluster.

Also do I do this with the new "PCM" in ?

In one word, yes (after the new/used one is connected).

I neglected to mention that security would be flashing during starting, whether from theft attempt (tampering) or incorrect relearn procedures after replacing either pcm or bcm. In normal circumstances, security turns on with indicators when ignition is switched ON then turns off before or during starting. In standby mode, security blinks once every few seconds when the remote keyless entry is used to Lock doors. When flashing during starting, Passlock detected a theft attempt and disables injector operation. When replacing pcm or bcm and not performing a relearn/marry routine, Passlock will not allow injectors to operate. Passlock resides in the bcm and communicates with the pcm before it sends a fuel password to tell the pcm it can allow injector operation. Its software at its best without any aftermarket electronics needed for theft protection. There's a glaring/obvious weakness in Passlock but it works for most owners against theft.

Does security flash while starting or not? You may have to repeat the relearn procedure, prolonging the ten minute cycle maybe another thirty seconds for each cycle before the fuel password is learned between pcm and bcm. If security turns on and off with all other indicators except battery, oil, seat belt and parking indicators, Passlock isn't the problem and lies somewhere else.
