2002 SL2
Default 2001 SL2/177,800 mi./What would be a fair offer?

This car is located in northern Illinois. Test drove it, steering nice and tight, clean, no dings on body, seems in very good mechanical condition. Upper engine mount looked wore out (large gap on frowny mount), valve cover gasket looks in need of replacement, and a little rust on driver's side engine cradle, but other than that, the exhaust and whole undercarriage looks great.

The guy said the bluebook on it listed between $2,400-$2,600, and said he would start from there. Just want some advice on what might be a fair offer on this car.

Blueebook has a tendency to be optimistic IMO.

I'd go for $400.00 to $600.00 dollars depending on condition, new tires etc.

Out here on the west coast, S-Series cars go for bluebook all day long. With gas at 4.xxx per gallon, the prices have shot up. Of course, we have no rust issues whatsoever. Cars typically stay on the road until they are wrecked or fail smog and are traded for 1000 bucks to the bankrupt state government.

It just goes to show how much different things are from place to place. A decent body will go for 500 bucks out here. In fact, I just bought one, and there were others in line right behind me with 500 bucks.

In my experience they'll typically be priced $1000 over blue book and go for about $500 over blue book. BB for fuel efficient cars is starting to become a joke, at least in California.

BTW: Its also amazing at how many people are selling off dead Grandpa's somewhat new Cadillac, Buick, etc for almost 1/2 of Blue Book. People aren't as willing to pay Blue Book for the big engines at the moment.

Any DD with more than 4 cylinders is just excessive, IMHO.

a $3-4k car that gets 40 mpg is a very appealing thing out on the left coast, hence why they can get 3-4k.
