I was driving my Vue a few months back and all of the sudden every dash light came on and the power was reduced. I pulled over to check under the hood. Couldn't see anyting obivious. Restarted and nursed it home. There is signifigant engine power loss off the line. I canges spark plugs and oil. very limited driving since.
On to today, I finally went out and bought the innova 3100 code reader. It's throwing codes p0172 and p1514. Not sure what the problem is or where to go from here. Any ideas? |

When this happened to me it turned out my Alternator was toast.

I'm working on a friends '03 Vue with the 2.2 and it is setting the same codes P1514 & P0172. It does this if you rev beyond 3200 RPM rolling or sitting still. The throttle response even when it isn't setting the codes is soft and sort of lazy, lacking power in general.
Any have ideas out there? |

P0172 indicates a rich running condition and P1514 basically indicates that the amount of airflow (as detected by the MAF sensor) is too high relative to the detected throttle position. The combination of those two codes points to either a bad MAF sensor or a bad throttlebody (specifically the position sensor that is built into the throttlebody butterfly motor).
You should check the airbox & air intake hose and make sure it is properly closed/tightened, inspect the MAF sensor & related wiring, and inspect the throttlebody wiring.
