Default Installing Cruise Control in 93 SC2

I just spent an afternoon at the local pick-a-part yard and grabbed the following from a 1995 SC2 in the yard:

Cruise control switch cluster
Cruise control module (the one that connects to the accelerator)

I now remember that the 1995-6 switches are not the same as the 1991-4 ones. Can someone tell me whether the cruise control module will be compatible or do I have a wasted purchase here?

Worst case scenario I guess I'll eBay the parts or offer them up here if someone's trying to upgrade a 95-96 SC2.

Basically my question is, what other parts do I need to upgrade a 93 SC2 to cruise control? Has anyone posted a walkthrough on this?

Best,

davo

The module will be fine. You'll need the switch pod from a 1993/1994 and possibly the accelerator pedal.

Thanks for the info...I just grabbed an appropriate set of switches off eBay.

1) I hope my car has the cruise harness. Haven't looked too closely yet.
2) Also hoping the PCM came pre-programmed for cruise. Did I read that you can get this done at a Saturn dealer for a small fee?

This car wasn't a fully-loaded SC2 otherwise; manual windows and locks, alloy wheels, automatic, a/c, cloth seats, fairly standard I guess.

Alloy wheels and automatic were options. A/C was standard.

You need the brake switch as well. I have a photo of it in my gallery here.

You may also need a new SIR coil, no way to tell until you take the steering wheel apart. Supposedly some 93s came with the SIR coil that had the cruise module plug but mine didn't and I ended up having to buy it from the dealer. I also had the dealer install everything for me (although I ended up switching out the control module twice myself) as I didn't want to mess with the airbag module myself. You can see some other photos of the parts for cruise control in my gallery.

It does. They all do.

I should be programmed already. And if it isnt, its usually cheaper and easier to pick up a PCM from the junkyard. The current clockspring in the steering column will be fine and you wont need a brake switch. Its all pretty much plug and play.

Not correct. My 93 did not come with the appropriate SIR coil.

The PCM however was all set to handle cruise.

Must of got an odd one then. I'll have to recheck the parts book, but if I remember correctly, theres only one part number for the clock spring.

So I'm finally up inside looking at the wiring...and where's the cruise harness? I'm trying to find wires of the appropriate color, the right plug, etc.

I bought this car from a friend who installed an aftermarket remote starter in the car...would wiring that have any impact on this? I'm just not sure what everything's supposed to look like compared to what it looks like now, and where exactly an unused cruise harness would be tucked away.

Hmm...now this is odd.

Now I'm realizing why it looks so different under there.
I looked at the pictures in this thread first:
http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81277

On my 93 SC2, there's a panel covering the area where I would mount the cruise module.

On the pictures I'm seeing of the 95 SC2, this area is open after you remove the lower driver side panel. On mine this isn't just a small removable panel, it's pretty large and also forms part of the front console and makes installing the cruise module impossible (it covers the space the module would go as well as the 3 mounting holes).

Did models with cruise have a different panel in this location?

Can anyone help out on this? Do I need to break out the Dremel?
Is the cruise harness hidden behind this panel?

I will try to post a few pics to show what I'm talking about.

Thanks in advance!
