Heart new member having a question already..help

I Have A Question Regarding Switching Engines In My Saturn. If I Have A Dual Overhead Cam In My Saturn, And The New Engine They Brought Me To Replace It Is A Single Overhead Cam, Will This Work???? My Engine Is Knocking And Needs Replaced So I Am Told. Is There Any Other Problem This Could Be???? Thanks Everyone.

Did you run it low on oil? Do you ever check your oil? WHo told you that it needed to be replaced? Why go from a DOHC to a SOHC. Try to find a DOHC (because I dont know if you can downgrade).

I Just Had A Oil Change Done Two Weeks Prior. As I Was Driving, No Oil Light Came On, And It Just Started Knocking Without Warning. I Pulled Over And It Was Bone Dry. I Just Bought Car One Month Ago. The Engine I Was Supposed To Get Was Supposed To Be A Dohc, But Now Can't Seem To Get Hold Of Guy Who Brought The Wrong Engine, And I Can't Afford Another Engine. Any Ideas?

OK first the every word with a cap thing is really hard to read.

Do you check your oil at every fill up? Do you see oil on the driveway? You already bought the engine? You bought an egine without knowing exactly what it was?

So the people who did your oil change told you right? WHO did your oil change, saturn or a oil place?

I really think your lifters could be affected but I am not an expert. When you dont get oil in the engine though things will knock. Do you have the right amount of oil now? Does the car still knock? Shoot my car ran bone dry on oil once and it has never knocked, never. When you open your hood do you see oil anywhere?

Sad Re: new member having a question already..help

u bought the car brand new or used??? and if u just had an oil change done 2 weeks ago and then the car was bone dry...there is a leakage somewhere...because that clicking noise is the sound of a bone dry car...now what gets me is that usually the oil change people will tell u if they see something fishy when changing ur oil...they should of told u that "hey u might need a new oil pipe or oil pan because u have leakage"...i've had this issue before with my supra so thats why i am sayign this...maybe it was a mistake on there behalf when changing ur oil and not tightening the screws...i really feel for u...and hope u can get this resolved by being able to point the blame where it is deserved

I Had My Oil Change At Wal-mart And Called Them Re:oil Change. They Said They Put The Right Amount Of Oil In And Did Everything Right. Sounded Fishy To Me. No Oil Leaks Of Any Kind That Can Be Visible. Had Mechanic Check It Out And None In Driveway. I Bought The Car Used, With One Owner, Who Did All By The Book. 150,000 Miles. The Car Ran Perfect With No Problems.

Also Forgot To Mention, The Car Cannot Be Drove Now Due To Knocking And Fear Of Throwing A Rod. But I Do Check Oil Everyday To See If Any Might Be Leaking Out But Is The Same Since I Put Some Oil In. Still Knocking After Putting Oil In.

GOD I HATE walmart.

OK, I wonder if they did not put your oil filter back on. Something is wrong. You around your engine, and check the oil.

I really cant help anymore, you have an s series I believe, go to the s series tech and put this there, the introduction/greetings thread is not the best place for it.

Click the forums button on the top, then scroll down to s series, click on that then when it opens click on tech.

I dont go to walmart, i dont like them and I sure as hell dont trust them with something like an oil change. Oil is the life of your car, you need to trust someone with it.

Personally you should learn and be able to do it yourself. Its very simple to do plus you know what items are going in and whats coming out. Gives you the great time to learn and explore your car (and I am going to take this a step farther and assume you are a girl, do not let that interfere with your thinking towards working on your car. You can do it.)

You Assumed Correct On The "girl" Comment. I Guess I Will One Day Learn Not To Trust So Many People, Especially Ones You Pay Money To. Shame To Have To Feel That Way Though. I Am On Top Of Always Checking My Fluids In My Car, But I Was Not Aware That It Needed Be Checked Only After Two Weeks Of Complete Oil Change. I Will Know Next Time. Thanks Again.

Saturns LOVE LOVE LOVE oil. Check your oil EVERY time you fill up, get in that habit. You should probably change your ects, ALL your fluids, get a new pcv valve, do an mmo soak, change spark plugs, etc since you just got the car. You can do most of it yourself believe me. If I can do it you can do it (I am a girl also, without this board I would not know what I do, but you can do it, seriously!)

It sucks when you cant trust a car company. I wont ever trust my local saturn dealership with my car. NOT when they tell me I need to replace things that are not even broken, they think it needs replacement due to the fact that there is oil all over it. You need to find a reputable mechanic. Ask your friends whom they use, and make sure this person is good. As I said you can do fluid checks yourself, some fluid changes, etc. There is a very informative How-To library here, I recommend you check it out.

Welcome to Saturnfans.com btw, I am sure you will love this site and be careful its very addicting!

Yeah, agoldslsaturn is right. I'm also a gurl and just spent the better part of Thursday doing alot of stuff to mine 95 SL (see Thoughts about my Old 95 SL thread). I was gonna take the car to get the oil done, but screw it....I'm buying the filter & oil and doing myself.

Plus, now I have a good story to scare my fiance from getting his oil done at Wallie World.......I told him they were no good. Last time I waas there they scratched some guys custom rims and took 4 hours to rotate & balance this lady's tires. NOT RIGHT!

Give them hell gurl! Hell hath no wrath like a woman scorned!

Most of those oil places are bad. Think about it. They hire 16-18year olds with no experience with their cars, use impact wrenches to put bolts back on that should be hand-tightened, and don't care if they kill your car.

My Grandma went to Jiffy-Lube, they "forgot" to put the drain plug back in. Destroyed her engine, and they tried to get out of paying for it.

My aunt the exact same thing happen, but at some other quick lube place.

I have a friend that got his car back with the drain plug still in, but stripped out to the point I was surprised it didn't just fall out, and his transmission fluid 2 (yes TWO) quarts too high.

First of all, turn off your caps lock

Second of all, does everybody in this thread forgot most saturn BURNS oil? Walmart probably put in the correct amount of oil, but your saturn burns it all. Search for OIL consumption and you'll see.

And you better get a hold of the guy that sold you the engine, because the SOHC won't work without a LOT of work, especially if the car is automatic. Then you'll need the computer, transmission, guage....etc...eetc...

Umm i think you didnt read right...

I think i mentioned more than once that saturns "lovelovelove" oil, did i not?

okay then. I think the mere point is to help her figure out if the sohc would work with her car (which i have no experience in). I think obviously she should stick with a DOHC as to lessen a hassle that would occur.

Maybe I just cant read though. I think I will go back to grade school now, last I heard they still offered naps.
