Default Genuine Parts...

I have been wanting to do some basic modding to increase the power of my sc1. As I look around the forum, it seems like all of the Saturn aftermarket parts/performance retailers are either out of business or their websites are down. Is there a decent sized list of aftermarket Saturn retailers that are honest and still in business?

Not really for the S-Series. What are you looking for?

OBX and Thermal R&D makes exhaust systems. OBX also makes a header.

AEM makes cold air intake systems and short ram. Short ram is common from various companies.

Fidanza makes adjustable cam gears and light weight flywheels.

Unorthodox made under drive crank pulleys (not sure if they still do).

These are the power mod parts I can think of off hand.

The best/only power "mod" you can do to a '91-'94 SOHC is swapping in a DOHC. Instant 40hp increase, nearly guaranteed that high (if it's in bad shape might only be 30hp increase), and virtually no MPG hit.
...
The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)

You need a DOHC engine to start with. That might satisfy you in itself as it is the cheapest/biggest power gain you can get.

SixthSphere bolt-on list.

That 6S list is seriously out of date and there are a couple more products that are not on the list.

That's entirely true...
I think anything SDA/SMS/SPS can be crossed off (new anyway) and that alone cuts the list in half.

Wouldnt it be alot cheaper to just sell the SOHC car and put the money towards a DOHC car, With all the parts that are needed to make the swap work it could run ALOT of money...

I had a friend turn me onto rockauto dot com..... and protuninglab dot com.... not entirely saturn focused, but have some great products. I just installed Accel U-groove spark plugs from Jebs dot com and noticed a difference right away.

How old were the plugs you took out? Was the difference just from going to a set of new plugs or you know for sure it was the Accel U-groove?

Yea, unless you sank a lot of money in your SC1, sell it & get a decent SC2.

That or swap out the motor for a DOHC.

the old plugs were about 2 years old. I noticed the increase during acceleration....I also just cleaned the EGR and replaced the O2 sensor. Runs much better now!

You guys are probably right. I might sell the sc1 and get an sc2, but I don't like the popup headlamps much. Maybe I will get a 97-01 sc2?

Don't know how you feel about sedans, but did you know the sedan is 10lbs lighter than the coupe?

Weird, huh?

That is strange...
But the doors on the SC's weigh a TON. Do the sedans handle as well?

What is involved with a DOHC install?
As a short list I would assume:
  • Exhaust system
  • PCM
  • Harness?

'91-'96 Coupe's are smaller & lighter. '97-'02 coupes are crazy heavy. That said...there's less than 100lb difference between a base SL and a loaded SW2, and most of that is in the freaking heavy automatic and useless A/C.

Only need the harness changed when swapping to a DOHC with '91-'94 SOHC's. Automatic transmission has to be changed, manual transmission you should (don't have to unless it's a '96+ and you require cruise control) get a DOHC/MP3 for a true DOHC experience. PCM has to be changed to a DOHC with the options you have.

The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)
