2004 VUE Red Line
Default Value of a 2004 Red Line FWD

Hi guys,

Just looking for opinions on a realistic value of our 2004 Red line FWD. We recently bought my wife a new truck and we're looking to sell her Red line privately.

Truck currently has 173,600 miles. We are the original owners
All maintenance receipts, manuals, keys and window sticker.
It was an early 2004 model so it doesn't have heated seats or side airbags, just the normal stuff:

1. Red Line Package
2. Sunroof
3. Gray Leather seats
4. CD/MP3 player with subwoofer
5. Auto-dimming rear view mirror

Within the past year we have had the transmission and torque converter replaced (18,000 miles ago). TQ was acting funny and GM along with my dealership talked us into a new transmission/TQ combo backed by a 3 year and 100,000 mile warranty. I personally had to talk to GM a handful of times to make arrangements to get the units shipped from Michigan to our dealership in NJ. Warranty travels with the truck and VIN number so there is no paperwork to fill out. New owner would be covered for 2 more years and/or 82,000 miles.

This past summer we also had the following done:
1. AC system completely replaced - compressor, drier, Shrader valves (may have spelled that incorrectly)
2. New front End Links
3. New Rear Shocks (OEM not aftermarket)
4. New front rotors (OEM not aftermarket - we have better results with the OEM units compared to aftermarket)
5. New battery
6. New OEM gas cap

Truck has never broken down on us and left us stranded. Paint still looks great and shines. Interior looks great too with just a little paint scraping from the center console around the center ac/heat knob and on the steering wheel.

Everything works as it should and needs nothing.

Any advice on a realistic sales price?
Thanks all!

Default Re: Value of a 2004 Red Line FWD

I have researched on KBB and with my mileage and "good" condition it came to about $4800 in my region (southern new jersey).

I figured being an original owner, all maintenance receipts and all the new work we recently invested along with the tranny warranty would be worth a little extra.

Asking for your help because I know that confidence in Saturn products isn't that high and not sure if KBB accounts for actual market.

Just looking for anyone who may have purchased one recently or bought a non red line Vue to chime in and let me know what you paid so I can try and get an idea.

Need to unload a car soon and get back down to 2 cars in the family.

Thanks again!

Default Re: Value of a 2004 Red Line FWD

Was the timing belt etc. (100k miles items) done to it?

I sold my AWD '05 Red Line to a dealer in October for $4,600 with 125k on it. It needed the timing (100k) items done. It had tan heated leather seats and sunroof.

It was black, 4 new tires, front brake pads & rotors, rear wheel bearing and had the torque converter replaced by GM under the campaign ('05-'07 only).

Yes, timing belt, water pump and tune up was done at 100k as suggested by manual.

Had a wheel bearing replaced early on at about 40-something thousand miles. Of course out of warranty not sure which one off-hand though.

Also had two engine mounts replaced a couple years ago. I remember working with my local shop and GM trying to track them down because no one could locate the ones we needed. That was fun! Eventually had to get GM involved to find them.

Dealers offered us 2000 and another offered 2500 and why I'm trying to sell on my own.

If they would have given us high 4's like you, I would have just traded it in to be done with it.

Thanks for the help

I would say $3000-4000 is a reasonable number for that mileage. It's probably going to be worth more to someone as just a reliable DD than to someone as a Redline Vue, if that makes sense.

I'd take it to CarMax, they'll basically give you wholesale for it, which I'd guess would be $3k or so, and you can be done with it.

Or you could end up being like me and not sell it, then be like "hey, I could just drive that thing" because it's nearly not worth selling and runs fine.

I'm running into the same problems but my Vue is running horribly and it still is more valuable to me then maybe the $1500 that its worth. It has 185,000 miles on it but it has a pa system, an LED light bar and a bunch of fun stuff I put in it.

Default Re: Value of a 2004 Red Line FWD

I ended up selling my Honda Fit with 57,000 miles that I loved and I took the RL over from the wife.

RL now has 175k on it and going from a car that had 57k to one with 175k and that gets considerably worse gas mileage should indicate how much we love our RL Vue.

I had the coolant changed, flushed the brake fluid, replaced rear drums, shoes and cylinders and a fresh oil change recently and she is running well.

Idle is a tiny bit rough - tach doesn't bounce but I feel vibration when idling so I'm going to clean out the EGR valve, clean the throttle body and check the other engine mounts that we haven't replaced yet. If everything there is OK, I'll wait and when I have my 200k service, I'll do the plugs and get a valve adjustment.

I still get about 22 mpg in my mostly city driving environment.

Just ordered some new Falken PT-722 in the stock size and hopefully they will be here by end of the week and I get rid of the road nose of my current tires that cupped.

As you can see, we decided that it was worth it to keep the Vue and invest a little money into it. Hopefully it lasts a couple more years.

Best of luck with what you decide.
