Default sound coming from left front wheel

ok new to the forum and hope i can get some help on this. I have a 1999 saturn sl with 180,000 miles. i am getting an odd thumping noise from the front driver side wheel area. it gets louder the faster i go and seems to go away when the brakes are applied. i dont really feel it in the steering wheel but mainly in the floorboard area. it makes the noise if i am going straight or going into a turn. i dont hear any kind of grinding or any other noises coming from the area.

alot of trouble shooting needs to go into this as this could be tire wheel bearing transmission ?

Wheel bearing test. Jack up the car, put the tranny in neutral.

- Grab the tire at 12 and 6 oclock, see if there's play.
- Spin the tire by hand and feel the coil spring, is there excessive vibration?

Answering yes to either of these two questions would point to a wheel bearing needing changed.

tried the above and there is no play in the wheel and no vibration in the coil.

It could be a broken caliper bolt. I would check that and the control arm nut/cotter pin.
