Hi i tried to hook up a manual fan switch on my 94 sl1 and it messed up my car.when i turn the ignition off the fan keeps on running until the battery dies.

I followed Instructions as posted By Wolfman

Your link doesnt work.

If your ECTS, relay and fan are working properly, the fan should turn on by itself at the correct temperature.

But if you must hard wire it, buy a relay and do it like this:

Coolant Temp Sensor. It's screwed into the center of the head on the driver's side. If you replace it, open the box at the store and make sure the inside end is brass not plasticy.

See the first few posts in the How-to Library for more on the ECTS and replacement.

If you are overheating you may have a bad ECTS. The factory originals need to be replaced, they will fail. Note that overheating is when the temp gauge goes into the red zone. The fan should come on when the temp gauge passes 3/4 scale but before the red zone.

I believe that Wolfman's fan switch thread states that the fan on/off switch is independent of the ignition switch state. The fan will run with the ignition off if the switch is set for ON.

Unless its a 1991-1994, which the OP has. The it will turn on just as the needle touches the red. This is normal.
