Just bought a 2009 Outlook this weekend which did not contain the auto-dimming mirror that I had wanted. The dealer can install for $500 - was wondering if anyone has replaced theirs on their own, and if so, where did you get the mirror and how easy was it?

Make sure the connections for it are there as well. This has also been discussed on the Aura site and the install should be the same. Might also check some salvage yards for any Acadias, Outlooks, and Enclaves to see if they might have a totaled one that you could get the mirror of off.

I was wondering the SAME thing but be careful that the connections are there. Removing the rearview mirror is a piece of cake, you just need an alan wrench and you're set!
My mom has a 2008 Outlook XR with the auto dimming rearview mirror and I have a 2007 Aura XE without the auto dimming mirror. I swapped the mirrors out just for kicks before I bought my own on ebay, and the compass and dimming feature DID NOT WORK on my aura. Looks to me that there are actually 3 more tiny wires on the wiring harness in the outlook versus my Aura. Hope this helps a bit! |

Before swapping out the mirror, have you spent some time driving around at night to see if you really need to dim the mirror?
The Outlook is a fairly tall vehicle and the rear window is higher than most vehicle's headlights. So you won't be affected by cars close behind you. For cars further back, the rear window is tinted, which cuts down the intensity. I have never had to dim the rear view mirror. That said, I did find headlights in the side view mirror distracting. |

You could always flip the lever when the light bother you too. I find that when I am driving at night, I flip the rear view and lower the side ones down and I have no issues with the lights then. When I need the mirrors again, I just raise the side ones up and flip the rear view back.
I know some people prefer automatic, but it would work until you get the mirror you are looking for. ![]() |
