All,
Have a 2007 Saturn I bought new in October of 2006. It pushing 184K on the 2.2 L and has a Manual 5 speed Getrag Transmission. Out of the blue the cruise control stopped functioning. The Cruise Control button with the light lights up but I get nothing when I set the speed etc. Seeing I had a engine light I did the scan. I used my Torque App which told me a Fault was found in my clutch pedal. I figured if I could not start the the car without engaging the clutch pedal the switch was fine... so I doubted it was the clutch pedal switch... but my factory manual (yes I have that giant 3 volume set) basically said not much else is in the circuit. So I bought the switch...it was cheap enough and put it in the place of the old one. No change Cruise still does not work. The book basically says the ECM is controlling the show on the Cruise Control. Am I at the point of wiring checking? The manual basically shows the 7.5 amp fuse with a line to the pedal switch with a wire going to the ECM. I figure its not the Cruise Control Switch in the steering based on the fact that there was a fault thrown. Any suggestions? Ideas? Other peoples experiences? Thanks, Chris Last edited by SolomonMan; 09-19-2023 at 10:36 PM. |

There are 2 switches on the clutch pedal.
One is the safety for starting(the easily accessible one... ) The other cuts the cruise control when the clutch is pressed. It is located waaaaaay up at the top of the clutch mechanism and is near inaccessible short of pulling the steering column. |

All,
I included a image of my scanned codes. Also I included the wire diagram from my factory service manual. Based on Anduu's response there are two switches. Looking at the diagram it must not be electrically inline to the easier replaced switch. Is this harder to reach switch the same part number/switch? I have dropped a column or two in my life. Typically its a few bolts and a couple covers. Is the ION more involved? Do you get access by the column removal or do you basically stand on your head and get your hands under the dash. From memory, when I replaced the clutch 53K back the pedal connects to the clutch cylinder through the fire wall. Is it up in that neck of the woods? Thanks for the help, Chris |

I do believe it is the same part number.
Mine intermittently stops working. I can see no way to replace it without dropping the column. I mean you can lay on your back and reach up there and see it but can barely get fingers up in there to touch it. Maybe if you had reeeeeally small hands? Removing the column is typical but with extra steps. The stalks need to come off as well to expose extra bolts I think. I also vaugly remember a couple of the mounting bolds are "supposed" to be one time use...don't quoote me on that. |

All,
Well the steering column coming out should not be a big issue. I have to remove the Rack and Pinion in the very near future as well as I have worn out another one. Its the third one now. They last around 60-70K. This will be the 4th unit. I will throw in new outers as well. Anyone else experience this issue with the Racks? There is a torque to yield bolt on the steering column to the rack and pinion assembly. Its about 4-5 bucks at the local dealer. I have noticed every time I go to buy one its slightly more by 40-50 cents. I will check the Factory Manual to see if there are others on the column...they are usually clearly listed. I am also looking at the Control Arms and shock assemblies as well in the very near future. I also found a floor pan that has rusted thru this will be a winter project when I take the vehicle out of service. Probably pull both seats and the carpet..who knows maybe new carpet as well. Thanks everyone for the help! Chris |
