2002 SL
Default question about ECTS

My car is 2002 saturn sl. Is my ECTS plastic or brass?

I read some posts in this forum that saturn started change from plastic to brass in 2001. Is it true?

Instead of the one from saturn dealer (too far from my home), which type of ECTS should I buy to get the same OEM quality? Will the one from autozone (duralast) be good?

thanks

They have a different shape and you should be able to tell without pulling it. Look at the rounded area on the new one just outside of the "nut" section.

Ours was resin tipped on our '95, but working fine until I replaced it last year.

2002 should be brass. but check to be sure the right type is installed. See photos above. Also, if temperatures gauge indications do not make sense, it could have failed or the connector/wires could have a problem, although that would be unusual.

I've not read of any issues with after market ECTS provide they are brass tip.
