Actually, you'd want to disconnect the NEGATIVE terminal. As for the no-start, is it cranking? If so, have you tested for spark and/or fuel?

Check them all. Normally when installing an aftermarket headunit if a wire grounds out you only lose a chime fuse. I would still check them all, as obviously a chime will not give you a no-start. I would try to jump it if all fuses are good, to make sure the battery is not fried below starting power. If nothing, I would take out the starter and be off to advanced auto or pepboys for testing.... still nothing, then move on to further diagnosis. Starters can clunk out with no warning... I would know .... isn't that right paul. All I did was put my food away and was coming back out to leave and click..... click....

Do you hear your fuel pump prime when you turn the key over.... should be like a whirring sound or buzz, however you want to describe it. Do not turn the key all the way over... turn it 2 clicks over but do not turn the car on.

I was going to ask why. Then I thought why ask why HERE, when I can just look it up. I always thought to disconnect the pos terminal as well.

To the OP, if you're wondering like I was. It doesn't matter at all which one you disconnect. However, if you decide you want to disconnect the pos terminal, and your metal wrench just happens to hit something metal while the terminal is still making contact, you'll have quite an unwanted fireworks show going on. Safety first.

Fireworks is the last of your worries. You disconnect the negative because then the charging system is not grounding the chasis, so when the wire touches it, nothing will happen.

If you pop the IP BAT fuse which feeds the I/P Panel that does prevent start and the CHIME fuse drops out the RKE, if the car has one. Either case you are not starting. Since the OP has a click from the starter and it does not turn over, its not a fuse. If it turns over but does not start then it is a fuse.

I would suspect something odd like a dirty battery cable. Once the starter solenoid closes the starter motor turns if it has power and that is hardwired direct from the battery. The heavy current draw of the starter motor will show up a dirty connection at either the battery positive or ground.

Really, good to know. We learn everyday. So is that a interior fuse or EB fuse?

Least, but still a big worry. Trust me, it's no fun to have those fireworks.

Yes, because having a spark is close to a fried comp, or wire???

fixed.... as I was saying, check the other fuses. I cannot pull them all for you or tell you with out seeing the vehicle. There is a fuse panel on the inside kick panel (center console) on the passenger side lower dash. It is labled... you just pull it off. Then there is one in the engine bay. There are not that many to go through. If it is the starter there is a detailed video about how to change the starter in the How-To library. Which if you take to advanced auto or pepboys, they will test it for free. But before going through that, pull the fuses. We cannot help you, if you are not going to help yourself.

CHIME, most likely (see above).

I did the same thing as you and blew the ignition 3 fuse in the in car fuse box. Check all the ignition fuses in the underhood and in car fuse box, as well as the chime fuse.

If the starter just clicks and the motor does not turn its not a fuse. There is no fuse that will prevent the starter motor from running if the solenoid closes, none.

If it clicks and does not spin its a starter problem, or a battery problem, or a cable problem. Now once the engine turns over all of those other things might be the problem for a failure to start and run. But right now the OP, Daredevil6534, states he hears a click. Based on that statement from the OP, there is nothing else required to get the starter motor to turn other than power directly from the battery.

Now if Daredevil6534 comes back and reports that there is no click then its a fuse and the ones listed above are prime candidates.
