Default Clutch life average?

What's average life expectancy for a clutch in an S-Series? Or I should ask what was the lowest mileage you guys have gotten out of yours? I know their are a great deal of variables regarding life of a clutch, just curious.

I do not know if there is a good answer as it depends a lot of drivers skill with clutch and how they drive too. a couple hundred K miles or more is quite possible if you are not hard on it. The trick is to slip it as little as possible when power is applied. I typically get life of vehicle out of a clutch because I can easy it out at idle speed while apply a bit of power when starting out and get it engaged quickly. If you are one that likes to play and slip clutch with more RPM, the clutch life will suffer.

yeah, pretty much what he said, I know a guy who had a 97 ford probe, at around 175K miles, he needed a new engine. The damn clutch was the original, but he got it changed anyway because it was already apart.

In my ion I have only 56K miles on it and I have been hard on it at times but for the most part, I am not and there are no signs that this clutch is worn at all. Still feels brand new. Saturn got this part right.

Touch wood, but have never had to replace a clutch in any of the manual cars I've owned (Saturn currently has 100k). I keep my left foot off and away from the third pedal to ensure I don't use it as a footrest. That, and keeping launches as soft and easy as possible, I don't expect to replace the clutch in my Satty before it wears out.

Did a clutch replacement last year on a 1998 SL1 with 298,000 miles on it with the original clutch. Probably could of gone another 100,000+ miles by the look of it.

the OE clutch in my 92 SC was replaced after 102,000 miles when the fingers on the pressure plate broke from D'oh! too many 4000 RPM launches. the OE clutch was in my 96 SC2 when it was traded in at 170,000 miles. the clutch was replaced in my 02 SC2 around 71,000 miles because the transaxle seal leaked oil onto it.

Thanks guys, looking at buying another s-series, most of those for sale in my area are in the 97-99 model years with around 180K on them, trying to budget for unforseen issues.
