Default Exhaust completely cracked.

So starting last year my exhaust developed some cracks very close to under the engine where that heat metal mesh stuff is. I filled it with an exhaust sealer I got and everything was fine for about 10 months or so. Last month it started to sound loud again and this weekend when I went on about a 250km trip just near the end my exhaust completely went. I think the cuplink or whatever that connects the two pipes is gone somewhere lost of the road. I tried to reseal it again using sealer and foil. But to now avail. Is this something that is shop worthy or could I possibly fix this myself?

you can fix anything yourself with the right tools. Also i wouldnt try ghetto rigging the stuff buy some new parts and fix it the right way or get good condition scrap yard stuff

is a scrap yard exhaust a good option though. I talked to a couple who said that it would be more of a hassle to get the old one off and a used one on. Someone told me to get it spot welded back together.

I had my flex pipe go a few months ago, I bought the flex pipe off the internet and got the exhaust clamps and just cut the old one out the bolted the new pipe to the manifold and then clamped in onto the old pipe where I had cut the old flex pipe off. I can post a pic later if you would like. It has been working fine and that was 10k ago. Midas wanted $310 for doing that, I got the pipe off the net for $55 and the clamps were $15 each.

Considering your car is a 99, check the whole exhaust system. You might want to consider taking it to a muffler shop, they can usually do the job for a fair price.

A mechanic that I trust took at look at my car, he told me the catalytic converter also probably had a max 3 months left on it. That most of the rear of the exhaust was also in poor condition and that to save on labour it would be worth replacing the whole unit now instead of later. I think that's the route I am going to go, simply because I don't have as much time right now to fix it myself or go around, get a used replacement and fit it. Is close to $1000 dollars sound fair including the labour for a whole new exhaust system? I know that catalytic converters are generally 300-400 dollars, the front pipe from the exhaust manifold was 160 and the other stuff was something like 200 plus all that labour I guess its fair.

That sounds a little high to me, try calling around to some muffler shops and get a quote.

A little!?! You're in "up there" so I understand things are a little different but, in the states a full system from the manifold back is ~$400 for generic direct fit aftermarket parts.

Things are pricier in Canada...I bought parts about 750.00 and installed them myself. Walker parts. Have to be careful about what u get cuz there are differences between coupe and sohc & dohc exhausts

That's kind of what I was thinking being across the border parts may be more expensive with cost of shipping etc.

Yea I got very similiar quotes from other places. I have had work done with this guy before and he is quite honest in my opinion. So I decided to go with him, it cost just around 1000 after labour.

I also just thought of sales tax on items, the parts have a sales tax that is 13% I guess depending on your state in the U.S you guys pay different taxes. That could be another reason it was more....
