Default 2001 Saturn Manual Conversion

I have a 2001 Saturn SL2 automatic, and a 1998 Saturn SL2 manual(donor car) I have begun the tranmission swap from the 98 to the 01, I've scouted out a few cars at junk yards and found a 2000 SL2 manual. Should I get the PCM from that car as well? Must the options match up on 3rd gen or can that be reprogrammed? Also should I grab the BCM from that car as well as the PCM?

I plan to finish the mechanical half of the swap tomorrow, I guess I'll figure everything out one way or another.

Everything programs except for the manual option, so yes, grab it. You might even get lucky and won't need to program it...I got a box off of ebay and plugged it into my car and it worked...saves me $90 on a flash. You don't need a different BCM, just follow the PCM passlock relearn procedure and you're good. I just did a manual swap 2 months ago, swapped a 5 spd into my 00 sc1 from a 95 sl1.

thanks! I thought that was the case, but I saw one member who did this swap and changed both the PCM and BCM and it got me wondering... here I go, out to start pulling the manual.

I suppose you can if you want to, seeing as the BCM is what stores the mileage information in the later years...perhaps if you find a low-mileage BCM you can make some resell profit? Regardless the BCM is tricky in that it needs to have the exact options your car has (power windows, locks, etc) I used the PCM with my current BCM just fine by following the passlock relearn. Haven't had any problems with it since.

well, that was a fun time.. took it out for a drive for the first time today...Did you're car have ABS? mine did and the abs unit was in the way of the clutch master cylinder.. i had to move it forward about an inch or to fit the clutch master cylinder in there...(drill&tap new holes) surprisingly, the battery and PCM still fit!

3rd gens must be different then 1st gens, when I had a '93 SL2 I didn't have to move anything to fit the clutch master cylinder in (let alone drill & tap anything), though the ABS module was fairly annoying to work around.
...
The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)

Maybe the 2000-2002 master cylinders are a bit smaller? I used the 2nd gen hydraulics and there was no way that was going to fit. I can post pictures if anyone wants.
