While rotating tires this morning on my 03 ION , I discovered that passenger, right rear top spring mount is rotted to the point that, it is barely holding spring. The only fix is to cut our rotted 6-8 inch section , and weld in new section from a donor car , or have a fabricator build one out of box steel.
I would junk the car, but I just put in new front control arms , bearings , rotors, calipers, and on , and on , so car runs great , with nice cold ac..... Anyone ever run into this ? GTSRider, Hudson Valley , NY |

Sounds like it's worth fixing. But I'd look closely at other parts of the structure also like the subframe attachments to the unibody. And of course the rear spring mount on the opposite side.
If you can afford it, buy a cheap wirefeed MIG welder and learn how to use it. Not difficult and you'll be quite popular with your friends and neighbors when word gets around. |
