How long has it been? It takes a while to clear it all out. Just keep running it, or drive it.

usually takes around 3-4 hours of CONSTANT driving at low RPM, if you wanna get rid of it right away, book it down a highway 60 MPH in 3rd (auto) 4th (manual)

if this soak does nothing, as my first one did, I suggest you do another one and then change your oil with mobil 1 synthetic. I don't know if it was the second soak, or the mobil 1 oil or both that did it, but my car seems to be using significantly less oil. it's only been 400 miles, but the oil is down only slightly. it usually would have used like 1/3 of a quart by this time. and it might just have been that I put in too little oil to begin with this time, as I used a 5 quart bottle and filled up an old castrol quart for the trunk before pouring the remaining mobil 1 into the engine.
just a thought. |

I'n my case, both times it took about a 5-minute (secveral mile) drive around the block to stop most of the smoking. Just completed the second soak, so jury is still out on oil consumption improvement. First soak had minimal apparent effect.

Mine smoked for a few miles. I drove threw the subdivision gingerly as the engine was still cold. As I got to the highway, the engine was warmer and I felt more comfortable pushing it. I gave it a Italian tuneup.

Did my first soak and swap to mobil 1 two weeks ago, jury is still out on consumption since I'm only doing about 2500 a year, anyway, I seem to be in a perfect location since the drive to the recycle centre with my old oil is just far enough to clear out the white smoke

I waited till night-time... then drove it around several blocks... cleared up the smoke, at least!
Had me worried, when I first started up the car... and kept seeing the smoke pour out.. I mean, there's a warning of smoke coming out right after... but I didn't see anything warning that you'd put your neighborhood in a total fog while you waited for it to clear up! I think I am going to do one more soak within the next few weeks..... |

If you are using 5w30, stop using it in the oil burner. 15w40 in summer and 10w30 in winter will cut consumption a noticable amout. you do not want to use 5w30 in a worn engine (SYN or conventional) as it will increase consumption. Also changin oil every 2500 miles or so will help as oil get contaminated quicker and dirty oil will make it burn more because even though you are adding to it the contaminates in oil are building up. |
