Maybe buying another Astra...

Been thinking of getting another Astra. Nothing is wrong with mine, but miles are piling up (close to 190k currently). Though I've done quite a few repairs and maintenance. Having replaced the alt, to valve cover pcv, spark plugs, o2 sensors galore, and a lot more parts, not including the euro body upgrades and rims. Though I can swap those parts onto a newer Astra.

But I'd like to get one with the pano sunroof, however it's very difficult to find find one with a 5 speed and sunroof. I'm not going automatic though.

Prices for used Astras seem to be pretty high. What do you guys see in your market?

Asking prices bumped up $1-2k in 2021 as everyone piles on the inflation bus.

I see 100k mile cars sit for months at $4k ask. They move slowly so just keep your eyes peeled and jump when you can. I don't think they are selling for near $4k tbh.

The used car market prices are up around 40% per professional publications but it is incredibly difficult to find a decent car.

I noticed that too around here in AL. On FB marketplace, several cars would stay advertised for months at high prices. I'm not even sure if they sell at all, I think some did though. I've seen a few Astras around the 3500 mark, but they are pretty far away.

I might have to keep doing maintenance on it and keep it longer then.

Good luck with the search, Pro. I haven't looked, but I would imagine finding a low mileage example might be a challenge.

I've seen a few examples, but it's definitively harder. Any Astra under 100k miles, they're now asking over $5k.

Whereas in 2019 I could find them for under $3k for low mileage samples. I remember a CL ad for an XR 4dr, with 80k miles, for 2500 bucks. The thing had everything (full package with sunroof, 5 speed manual, XR rims, perfect paint, like new leather seats etc). That car would be like 6k now

Those days are gone. At least for now, once the economy explodes we can buy them again for cheap, but then we'll have a different set of problems

All this craziness shall pass eventually. Hopefully we can get good Astras for cheap again.
