Hey all,
Well, the front brake shudder has gotten too annoying to stand and new parts have been ordered. The plan is to install some Ate slotted rotors and Hawk performance pads over this coming weekend while visiting the folks (my pops has better tools ![]() -Chris

The slotted rotors are going to vibrate too. They'll also chew through those Hawk pads a lot faster than normal flat rotors and provide no benefit whatsoever in your braking.
I don't know the torque spec offhand. (I used Hawk HPS pads on every car I've owned for the past 10 years or so...good pads.) |

The torque spec is tight. Exact number is not a big deal as long as it is tight. I have been watching my dad or doing brakes myself for 30+ years and never once needed a torque wrench.
I can't speak about the saturn dealers but Ford dealers and Jeep dealers will allow you to go in a read their FSM and photocopy the pages you need. Other forum threads I have seen 27 ft-# and 81 ft-# mentioned so it does not sound as if anybody definately knows. 1 of the things I made for myself for doing brakes is an "S" hook to hang the caliper with. Just take a metal coat hanger and cut yourself a section and bend it in an "S" to hang the caliper to take the stress off the hose.

Below is a partial cut and paste for a 2004 2wd from the factory ESI DVD software
Brake Caliper Replacement Installation Procedure Apply a light, thin coat of high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the caliper guide pins. Install the guide pins to the brake caliper bracket. Install the brake caliper to the brake caliper bracket. Notice Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices. Install the brake caliper guide pin bolts. Tighten Tighten the bolts to 44 N·m (32 lb ft). Remove the caps or plugs from the brake caliper opening and the brake hose. Important Do not reuse the copper brake hose gaskets. Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets to the brake hose-to-caliper bolt and to the brake hose. Install the brake hose and the brake hose-to-brake caliper bolt to the brake caliper. Tighten Tighten the bolt to 44 N·m (32 lb ft). Bleed the hydraulic brake system. |

Thanks for the input guys. I did the the job two days ago and about 50 miles later things seem just fine. Man alive it's nice to be rid of the front end shimmy-sham. Merry Christmas!
