conversion from auto to manual

Just out of curiousity.... how hard would it be to convert from auto to manual? For a 06 with the 2.4 if that makes any difference. I dont want to do it im just curious. Are all the holes already pre drilled?

I've looked into this myself and it will be a MAJOR pain to do. First, you need a new wiring harness, have to cut a slot for your clutch pedal, new shifter hole, new PCM ect ect. It would be a long and painfull, involved process.

If you're within 30 days of purchase, trade up if you're having any 2nd thoughts. You'll regret it later on, kinda like I do.

^^^^ What he said. I def regret my 03 Auto Coupe, but needed an auto for city driving in NYC, now that I dont do that, I REALLY want a 5 speed.

Since he joined back in Feb, I'd assume he's well over the 30-day exchange limit.
As others have said, what you're asking is a long and difficult modification, and as there's really no standard production kit to use, you introduce lots of areas where things can go even slightly wrong.
If you want to through enough time, money, and energy into almost anything is possible. Heck, there are a few Ford Focuses out there rigged up with V-8 engines driving the rear wheels.

I don't know about the Ion but on a Acura Legend it requires a transmission, differential, axles, clutch pedal/cables, interior trim pieces and a new engine computer. The holes are already pre-drilled.
The S cars are likely a bit simpler.
I've never done it but it seems like a fun project.

trade it in on a 06 MT coupe. The ION is considerably improved.

I thought it only can in 5 speeds. Unless the Astra will come 6 speed... If so, I buying that
