1993 SC1
Default 1993 SC1 Idle Adjustment

Hello All..

I have a 1993 SC1 4cyl TB w/PS w/A/C

It is currently idling around 500rpm's and this idle is quite rough..

If the car was idling around 900-1000rpms it would be alot smoother..

Is there a way to adjust the idle up?

She burns alot of oil and I have to have an antifouler on cyl 1..

Please help..

Was the idle always this low? What's the idle rpm during cold engine start ups? If not above 1000rpm's then it may be a faulty/dead idle air control valve.

No way to physically adjust the idle. Lightly tap the idle air control with the handle of a screw driver to see if your idle changes.

1993 SC1
Default Re: 1993 SC1 Idle Adjustment

I have swapped the IAC before, no change cleaned that passage hole too... When u start the car idle 1200 - 1500 then slowly drops over time. Once coolant 1/4 hot, idle sits around 500rpms... I actually thought about putting a few washers between the cable and the gas pedal.. just something... just barely laying your foot on the gas pedal will put u in the 900 - 1000 rpm range.. Between an old egr and old IAC idle was 2000 but swapped those and idle came down. swapped Iac for another one but idle did not increase

The coolant temperature at 1/4 is incorrect and may be a sign that the original coolant sensor (the two-wire one) was never replaced? Your '93 has two coolant sensors, a single wire one for the temperature gauge and a two-wire one for the pcm (engine computer). Either the coolant sensor is faulty or the connector is because the signals are low voltage and high resistance from a failed sensor or corroded connector alters signals making the pcm think the engine is still cold, as reflected on the temperature gauge. there's also a worn out thermostat that can run cooler than normal and may have to be replaced too. Once both are taken care of the temperature gauge should show 3/8ths needle deflection and possibly correct the low idle.

The replacement coolant sensor is brass.
