1995 SC2
Default Window Nuts on a 1996 Saturn SC2 Window Regulator

Last night I figured out a great and free way to take off the Window Nuts on a 1996 Saturn SC2 Window Regulator.

1. Tools required:
a. 2 used drill bits.
b. A pair of welding vise grips. These vise grips have a wide mouth,
kind of like a large clip that you would use to close a bag of chips.
c. A medium size adjustable wrench.
d. A can of Wrench Off.

2. Directions:
a. Spray a vigorous amount of Wrench Off onto the Window Nut. Spray
around 3 times and let it sit for around 15 minutes.
b. Simply find two old drill bits that will fit in the Window Nut holes. The
drill bits will probably be hardened steal.
c. Turn the drill bits so that the drill portion of the bits can be inserted
into the welding vise grips. Clamp the vise grips down with about Ĺ inch
of the bit sticking out. Use the adjustable wrench to grab the bits
between the Window Nuts and vise grips and slowly turn. I used a 2x4
piece to secure the window in place.

Good luck! It worked for me.

I also decided to buy both the Window Regulator and motor together. As mentioned earlier, itís too much work to take everything apart to find out that either the motor or regular is also bad.

I did buy the motor from Advance Auto - $67.00 with a core deposit. Just to return it realizing that some of my teeth on the Window Regulator were worn.

I looked all over the internet and found a Window Regulator w/motor at

Item: Door, Glass and hardware, Regulator, Power w/motor, Power w/motor Left
Price: $134.60
Tax: $0.00
Qty: 1
Total: $134.60
Items Total: $134.60
Shipping: $20.19
Handling Fee: $2.00
Order Total: $156.79

Picís if needed.

I cut a three-inch piece of heavy copper ground wire and bent it into a "U" with the distance across the open end equal to the distance between the hole centers in the window nuts. A few licks with a file squared the ends of the wire so they seated flush in the holes. Then I tightened a crescent wrench across the bottom of the "U" and used it to unscrew the nuts. Worked very well.

A ďUĒ is a good idea. I didnít have any heavy duty wire lying around. I also thought to use a spanner wrench that goes to my hand held grinder. Couldnít find it in a timely manor.

So there are easier ways that cost 0 to nothing to make a tool for the Window Nuts. This is my first post and since I have received sooo much information from this website, I thought it is would be a shame not to post.

I would also like to add:

I havenít seen a whole lot of posts with were people were buying and what kind of prices they were paying.

I called several of the common auto stores in my area. Allot have the motor for around $60-$70 with a core deposit. None had the regulator/w motor. The local Saturn dealership had the regulator/w motor for around $229.00 including tax.

Also on taking the outside door skin off I broke the plastic push pins that hold the door handle on. Had to go down to the Saturn dealership for that, $1.50 a piece.
