For this 2000 SL1 auto. tran. SOHC, I've put on 3 valve bodies and two
input shaft nuts. It is perfect in forward gears. Had reverse slam before I started. Did Wolfmans fix etc... No reverse. Someone said that I should have reverse even if the elec. connector on top of the valve body was unpluged. Or can the wires on the disc on side of the tran. under the brake fluid or the selector disc it's self cause a no reverse? Tks.... |

Or did you lose reverse after reverse slam failed to cure the problem and you started replacing valve bodies and input shaft nuts?

Thank you taking my question.
First, I changed filter and fluid and parked against a tree for 35 minutes with a brick slightly against the gas pedal because at idle it wouldn't engage reverse. Pulled car forward and no reverse. Second, I tightened the input and output shaft nuts. No reverse. Third, put on a reman valve body. No reverse. Fourth, put on another valve body. No reverse. Fifth, from another company, put on the third valve body and new input shaft nut and torqued really good with a impact wrench. No reverse. Sixth, I pulled the wires, from the top of the valve body, apart and inspected for wear on damage and cleaned the connector. No reverse. The connector seem to push on with hardly any effort. It drives perfect in all forward gears. Tks.... |

Were you ever having trouble engaging reverse before this? Or was it just doing the slam?

The original problem was when the shift slector was put in Reverse, I had
to give it a little gas before it would engage and move back. If I let off the gas while in reverse it would go back to idle and I would have to give it a little gas to engage again. That's why I put a brick on the gas during the cure so it would stay engaged in reverse. Tks... |
