As we are talking C152 may be buying the car as a whole, so there will only be the Sub and amp being removed so far.

If anyone wants to REALLY increase your chances of being the last Astra owner, then get to Fairfax, Virginia and get this single owner car with just 21,200 miles on it.

I think I finally figured out how to add pix. Soooo, these are my Astras. The interior shots are of the 5 dr. I just wanted to show how happy I am with the durability of the materials. Twelve year old car and the seats do not have a rip or crease. Really happy with the suspension, just sticks to the road, eh?

This one is now titled in VA, but spent it's life in MD.
I would really like an undercarriage photo to see how well it has withstood salty roads these last 12 years.

Having lived in the Rust Belt for years, I've found Southern owned cars are the best long term choice in my opinion.

Iseecars has a 2-door (no sunroof) in Hendersonville,NC with a 5-speed and about 115K miles, too.

New to forum, although I've been lurking for years for repair advice.

I bought my 2 door hatchback Astra XR new off the floor in 2009 for something like $15,000 (man were those salespeople glad to see it go). It's now at 140,000 miles, and i'm planning to drive it into the ground.

I may not be the last Astra owner, but my mechanic skills are growing along with the car, so I'm hoping to break 200k.

I'm sure the end for me will come when parts become too impossible to find, although I've been having really good luck with a place in Europe with a decent website and $35 shipping to the US. I'd say where it is but I don't want to be accused of trying to sell anything with my first post. Ask me if interested.

I'd love to hear what everyone's criteria would be for when to let their Astra go.

Hello Cranapple,

Welcome to the Saturnfans family. Good question, I have two (3 and 5 dr) and will be purchasing nicolas_p's stunner. Hope to complete the sale next week. That will make three. Checking if there's a Guinness world record category for that. The 5dr was bought new and it's now at 230 000 km, the 3dr now just turned over 190 000 km, it was for my daughter. The latter needs quite a few repairs, but I am loathe to send it to the big parking lot in the sky. These are rare cars, so that only adds to their appeal. In still very class-conscious Europe, they're seen as mullet cars (check out the German movie Manta Manta) or lunch pail Joe cars, not ashamed of that, either. They are solid, look great, handle even better and the interior still looks new. So, I don't know what to do.

As for parts, if you're not in a hurry, this is an amazing resource, so I wouldn't worry.

Hello all,

Well, it's finally done, I finally have possession of nicolas_p's car. Hopped on a train to Oshawa, where his lovely wife was nice enough to pick me and drive me to the Service Ontario office where n_p was holding a spot for us to complete the sale with the least possible delay. It was all done very quickly and I got out of Dodge before he could change his mind. Two very nice and friendly people.

The drive back was not too fun as it was raining hard for about halfway. Also, didn't want to attract any police attention, so I stuck to the speed limit as best I could. Not easy, that only means you're holding up trucks and even old ladies in Nissan Versas. Just kidding on that last line.

Next step is the inspection required to register the car in Quebec. I have a 10-day temporary transit sticker and my appointment is June 10. Oh well.

I am new as well just bought a 2008 Astra XR with 166KM really just for a fun project car no idea what the color name is kind of a metallic beige?

Interior is in good shape but the exterior is in bad need of detailing which I have an appt tomorrow.

The passenger side rear tail light is cracked still works but looks bad because of the moisture/condensation inside the assembly...I managed to find one off ebay in Kentucky of all places but shipping North of the border ain't cheap so would be interested in alternate parts sources.

Don't ask why I remember such minutia, but I believe that color was called "sandstone". Nice color and not all that common.

Congrats on the purchase!

My yearly bump to this thread. I've got 81,000kms on the odo. Lots of scratches from my kids...doh. My Astra has been a bit crippled lately, in the winter, I lost control on ice, and hit a curb, burst my old winter tire on the one that hit. Replaced the tires, and then realized I must have also bent the control arm. I bought a replacement but haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. I watched some videos, does anyone have any hints for replacing the control arm? I'm just an amateur DIY, but I think I can do it, but I just ant to know of any caveats.

Kikastra,

This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but I seem to remember it will probably show you most of what you want.

These videos show a guy with his own shop in the UK doing work on an Astra before "selling it on," a little Mike Brewer lingo there. This guy obviously has a conscious and wants to sell a safe and reliable product. His channel has him going through this car and completing repairs of all faults. If I saw these videos, it would make me want to buy this previously rusted and busted Astra H.

He goes into getting the subframe off, then the steering rack, then everything else. The biggest differences I remember are that we have the "electric" rack and the steering here is powered by a double sized pulley off the water pump......I guess I should look at the video again before saying that, but that is my memory, along with two different vendors of steering racks being used interchangeably on this type of Astra.

Have a coffee and enjoy, they are a bit long, but satisfying to watch. The others, too.
