Default 94 clutch replacement--must engine be removed to access clutch?

hello--

this is just for future reference--no current problems.

i was reading through my haynes manual for my 94 sc1 (sohc) and noticed that it says that you must remove the ENGINE to access the clutch components.

i have never heard of such a thing. with any other car i've owned, the manual said to remove the TRANSMISSION to access the clutch.

can anyone tell me if my haynes manual is correct or not?

thanks!

The tx can be taken out through the bottom if the engine cradle is removed and the engine is supported up on top. Check out the how to section here. (Forum jump at the bottom of the page).

You don't have to remove either one. In a nutshell, you unbolt the tranny from the engine and slide it as far leftward as it will go (remove the left front strut/knuckle assembly). Plenty of threads here on the procedure, and most likely a richpin06 youtube video.

Simply support the engine either from up top or underneath, and pull the trans into the wheel well as suggested in the post before mine.
If you are just doing a clutch replacement and nothing else, you do not have to remove the trans from the car, just slide it out of the way etc.
