I guess I will sit on things a little longer, bump up this offer every month or two.
With the people that still enjoy these cars spread out, it's harder and harder to get rid of one these days.

My '95 needs a clutch and is a beater for the most part, but I didn't even get scrap price offers here. I thought just the subframe, good body panels, running engine, etc... would grab a few hundred dollars. I hate to send it to the scrap yard, but that is the way it's looking.

I suspect you may end up in the same situation. At least Cali will buy it from you.

wow, that looks really clean.

The exhaust tip on my muffler doesnt have that many miles and got several coats of hi-temp POR15 and paint, and doesnt look that nice

Brake pedal doesnt look hardly worn, no rust on the gas/trunk levers.

Grabbed a few pics for posterity, missed a few though

Be wary of the motor mount situation. The 91's were a unique year as far as motor mounts go. I don't think they make them aftermarket too.

They don't that I have found. Have been periodically searching the PN for the last few years and have not found one.

The 91 motor mounts where apparently hard to find even in the mid 2000's when Saturn dealers where still open. Not really sure what they where thinking with the motor mounts for 91. Saturn defiantly was not planning on changing the whole setup one year later for 92, but people complained so much about about engine noise and vibration that Saturn had to do something. It should have been the 92-02 way from the start, but because it wasn't it kind of screwed over early adopters of the brand. There must have never been much demand for 91 motor mount replacements so production must have stopped pretty early relative to most 1st gen parts. I don't think there was ever any aftermarket for them either. Being their first car, you really can't blame them for how many things are 91 only. A lot was changed for the better as the years went on. It does unfortunately make restoring a 91 in the modern day a lot harder. It is possible to retrofit a 91 with a 92-02 mount setup by swapping timing chain covers and a few other things if really needed, but then it looses some of the charm of being a 91 imo.

I just wish there was some way to stop the vibration in the cabin. I have 3 saturns currently, a 1992, 1997, and a 2001, all SC2 and i have bought the real saturn branded mounts and the interiors still vibrate to beat hell, especially at start up when its cold out..I have a hard time these things vibrated this bad from new, but when you replace the mounts on several different cars and it still doesnt stop it, they couldnt have been too good from the start..

I guess this is what I needed to lower my sights more than just a bit.

I took a second look at the Cali offer... its $1200. Yes, I will take less selling it to somebody here.

What is really sad are all the incidental parts I have put away for the car like multiple long oil filters, plugs, break pads, new nos coil packs, a gasket or two...

I will entertain ANY offer, consider any ideas of convenience to the buyer in order to keep all the mentioned tangibles from getting thrown on top of a scrap pile.

Remember, ZERO rust, interior is about a 9.5/10, zero dents, runs nice and smooth at all speeds, everything works. PM me and know that I may not check in here on a daily basis (Weekly or so?) Thanks !

The Saturn 1.9L wasn’t the smoothest engine out there when new. A lot of complaints early on where about excessive engine vibration, so the weird cable setup was replaced in 92 with what was used up until the end. Even that wasn’t good enough though so the frowny style mount started being used in 93/94 for a smoother idle. The frowny mount was successfully at smoothing out vibration at idle, but it came at the cost of durability. The 1.9 was never balanced as well as other 4 cylinders of the time, so the motor mounts had to do a lot more to keep vibration down where other engines would use beefier balance shafts. Saturn ultimately went back to the solid mounts by 2000 due to the frowny mounts failing prematurely.

Don't overlook the contribution of the compression measurements for each cylinder.

New motor mounts wont knock out the jumbling/shaking of your running engine if there is a reasonable power imbalance between the cylinders. The imbalance can make the motor jerk, rock/shake. My car used to be that way before my rebuild. The rebuild put my compression measurements all exactly the same and now when the car is running you would never know it.

Beach Car! - $1,500 (Greenpoint)

Hey, Brooklynites (or whatever borough),

Are you tired of relying on your friends for a ride to the beach? I was. This Saturn changed that. It's super reliable, low mileage, and clean. New tires put on about 2 years ago (I've put about 8k miles on them) and they are still in great shape.

Stats:
1997 Saturn SC1
112k miles.
Appx 35 mpg.

Don't spend precious summer hours standing on the corner with a cooler waiting for that friend who is stuck in traffic because they got up late, only to get to the beach late and have them tell you after an hour that they need to get going.

Control your own beach destiny with your very own car! Because let's be honest, you've gone long enough in the city without a car.

I'm only selling this car because I was gifted another.

$1500. Only serious inquires, please.
