Default Vue backup at least.

My kid got another suv so I have her 03 vue.
I replaced radiator and hood so it runs ok. May be my winter cruiser.
My 07 torrent is issue. I could write a book on its issues.
Heater core has tiny leak. I can hear gurgle too.
No heat at idle. Ok heat while driving.
Runs warm;hot at idle. Unless I rev it too 1500rpm.
Kinda bites for short trips. No heat at idle. It’s winter now.
Heat is nice. Uses no coolant. Level is good.
I could pull heads. Since I have done job on 3 other equinoxes.
I’m pretty good at steps. But, the HC job is daunting.

Ordered HG parts today. Will be mad if gurgle remains after job but before the HC job. How can the cooling system gurgle with zero coolant use in 1 yr of driving? It can’t be a coolant bleeding issue.

Got a set of these equinox wheels and 3/4tread Bridgestone tires yesterday for $89. Good deal. I found out the current tires on vue are at wear bars. I found a nice set of equinox alum wheels in 1st row at yard. I bet there were 3 nice sets to choose from. Even a few good vue wheels. But, I don’t want 2-3 sets taking up space in garage.

We've had our 2007 Equinox since 2008 and have never had any engine or transmission issues aside from a leaky front main seal. It has 205k miles on it, but still has all the original engine management sensors (e.g. ECTS, MAF sensor, oxygen sensors, etc.), water pump, thermostat, alternator, and starter. The 3.4L engine in the Equinox/Torrent can be very difficult to bleed without a vacuum filler/air lift tool. If you don't have one of those, I highly recommend parking it on a hill with the front right corner (where the bleeder screw is) at the highest point when bleeding the cooling system.

Make sure the cooling fans are working.
On the Equinox/Torrent w/3.4L the connector at each radiator fan motor often develops a bad connection over time. Eventually, the increased resistance will prevent one or both fans from turning on, and will melt the connector. One connector going bad will prevent both fans from running when low fan speed is commanded because the two fans run in a series circuit in low speed mode. I suspect that in many cases the fans not running is what causes overheating which subsequently leads to head gasket failures.

This is my fourth equinox 3.4 Headgasket job I’ve done. I like to think I have the cooling system venting process down. My sister owned the 08 for 10 years. Had no cooling system issues that I know of. Maybe she is tight lipped?

Found 4 mustang gt 1995 17” rims for $40. Scrap is $80. Guy is meeting me 6 blocks from my house
I might use them. But my car has leaf springs and the backspacing is a bit too deep.

Rims are 18”. Measure 18.5” Outside lip to lip. Still not worth much.

I’m wrong. 18.5” lip is a 17” wheel. Got 2 more gm rims for $10.
Yard had 1/2 off sale. Got 2 equinox wheels/tires for $24.

Runs hot, no heat and you hear gurgling. Sound to me like an air pocket in the system.

The cabin heat is fine when driving at 1500 rpm or higher. I can drive 100 miles on hwy and heat is fine. I stop at redlight and heat will go to cool within 1-2 minutes. At idle it will blow cold. The coolant level is fine. I have driven it like this for over 1 year. I can use ac in summer. I don’t think I have a summer ac issue. It’s only winter and heat issues. I have flushed out heater core. No improvement. So, 1500 rpm and great heat. Idle at 700 rpm and lousy heat. Yes I replaced water pump.
Been told, change head gaskets and see what happens. I have no problem doing that. Done 4 HG jobs so far.
