From bad to ridiculous!

Since I bought my Vue, and got gas for the first time, I had problems fueling. I would fill it until the pump went off. Then slowly, pump by pump, fill it until it literally was at the very edge. This wasn't new to me because my Kia does it too. But today when I got gas, it went to the extreme. I started pumping and it stopped at .23. Ok, no big deal, the pump does that from time to time. Started again, same thing. I would get maybe .70 at a time. It can normally take 10 minutes to get gas. I just stopped at $20 because I have to work today and I only had 2 hours before I have to be there. Is there anything I can do to make the tank fill more quickly? It's ridiculous to begin with, but this is just infuriating. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Try not sticking the nozzle all the way in.

I've done it every way imaginable. All the way in, all the way out, half way, you name it.

If the canister vent valve is stuck closed when its supposed to be open during fueling, the sensitive fuel pressure sensor used in fuel nozzles triggers automatic shutoff. The canister vent valve is open to allow fuel vapor venting with ignition off, closes with ignition on to seal off fuel tank vapors and collect them in the evap charcoal canister for recycling to the engine intake. Emissions controls. The canister vent valve is usually mounted near the fuel filler neck, hidden behind the rear quarter panel and seen when removing the rubber seal around the fuel neck or while under the vehicle for tank repairs/inspection. If you can locate it, try a sharp smack to the assembly - it may loosen the solenoid valve back to open position (with ignition off).

For what its worth, this process of 'topping off' your fuel tank can cause this issue. You should stop filling your tank when the pump shuts off the first time. Continuing to fill it will cause fuel to enter the canister/vent line and then cause it to not vent the fuel vapors properly. This leads to the problem you are having where the car won't take fuel. There is a reason that the pump shuts off when it does.
