Hello, Fans. Long time user first-time post. I hope I can get some great ideas to alleviate my problem. Here is the issue:
(In park) Able to start with sputtering involved. Attempt to "rev" the motor and begins to loose power. While in park, It stays idle if I leave it alone, when I gas it, it dies out. Could it be: 1) Oxygen Sensor 2) Sensor-Fuel Tank Pressure 3) Fuel relay Any solid answers or high possibility guess would be greatly appreciated 2008 Saturn Astra |

Some history should be given; mileage, maintenance done, parts replaced, mods done, etc.. Any error codes?

tune-up, spark plugs in the past 5 months, no major problems until now. No other mods, repairs done before. |

Low battery, no. I'm able to start my engine very easily at first. the nearest dealership that can give me diagnostic codes is far too far for me too travel to. And a local auto parts shop is not exactly have the best reputation for giving you the accurate codes. I could get codes from the Autoparts store, but at the same time they would have to come to me. There are not many that would do that.

Sometimes little use of of our cars creates unusual wear. Throttle bodies may need cleaning. Catcons may disintegrate internally and partially block off exhaust flow. For whatever reasons, cars need to be driven at least once or twice a week for ten miles or more to have the engine up to operating temperatures.

If allowed, will the engine warm-up on its own without shutting off (10-15 minutes)?

If your check engine light is on, it's really worth it to get the codes read. I'd recommend you get something like this, https://www.amazon.com/BAFX-Products.../dp/B005NLQAHS
and get an app like Torque on your smartphone. All in, you'll be under $30, and you can use this on any car. Mine has more than paid for itself, plus, you can use it for so much more than just reading codes. You can read all the sensor values in the car in real time, like coolant temperature, temperatures ahead of and behind the cat, voltages, etc. You can also store and reset codes. With a code, we'll really be able to narrow down what the issue might be. When mine acted like you describe, it was the coil pack. It suddenly started running rough, acted like it was going to stall, and I managed to drive it about a half mile home but the car was not happy about it. I replaced the coil and everything was good as new. I had noticed some gradual decrease in fuel mileage (by about 2 mpg) in the months leading up to the coil failing, and it went back up after I replaced the coil.

Is it possible its the Cam position sensor failing? I know when mine did, the symptom was a lose of power, but I don't remember it affecting idle, so maybe this is different. It didn't always throw a CEL either, but it did store a code. But if the sensor hasn't failed yet, maybe it is that, since that is one of the major failing components on these cars. Just a thought.
