Default AC compressor UV leakage markings

I read fdryer's excellent post:

http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80107

but still need help identifying what part of the compressor it is that appears to show signs of leakage. Here's the link to the imgur photo. I hope it shows, the preview isn't showing it...

It should be there, maybe it's a link below.

The URL tag above works, but the IMG tag above doesn't. Did I just uncover a bug in the forum?

'Dats a boooooring write-up if I do say so myself.

I recommend anyone here to resize their snapshots to a smaller file size, around a megabyte and in jpeg format to allow inclusion here as thumbnail images. Over the years, others have used host sites that disappeared, leaving a thread without snapshots. Using the paperclip tab to include appropriately sized images keeps them here in permanently. Thumbnail images are restricted to 150 kilobytes but jpeg images as large as a megabyte are accepted here. I copied your large (3.5mb) snapshot and resized to 25% of original size, edited it as as shown below.

The rear leak is emanating from the factory calibration screw/plug with a known weakness in the O-ring seal after several years of reliable ac. Do not tighten it as this will render the compressor inoperative. Saturns use a variable displacement vane type compressor with an internal mechanism adjusting for displacement at all engine rpm to maintain compressor efficiency in conjunction with the thermal expansion valve. The factory calibration plug was adjusted then a paper seal covered the plug with a warning against anyone adjusting it. A service bulletin was issued years ago for dealers to make less than a 1/4 turn for cooling issues when a vehicle was brought in for ac cooling issues. This adjustment was performed only after a full assessment was made to rule out typical leaks occurring 98% of time. There was one member, JerryHughes, that made a seal using another plug with epoxy to completely seal this end.

I'm trying to find the thread and will post a link for you to decide whether or not its worth it to fix this issue permanently or replace the compressor and expend more money. Here's his fix; http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=223121

150kb, check. That explains why it didn't load it originally.

Thanks for the link. I'm preparing for a similar fix.

I'd forgotten to subscribe to my own post, so I didn't see the answer for a few days.

Thank you!
