Default rebuild sl1 engine pricing

if i took an sl1 92 engine to a rebuild shop what kind of pricing should/would i expect?

trying to get a ballpark figure for overhaul... redo head vavle replace and pistons...etc.

when my timing chain tensioner went the chain gave way
pretty sure she's majorly hosed (bent valves etc.)

i saw on here someone mention that the bottom end may not tank the impact so well leading to other failures down the line

so i'm considering a rebuild

yes it would be nice to do itmyself..but no space and maybe not enough tools

i contacted a few of the rebuild companies online
got absurd prices ($4000) and stuff

I'm in south florida...ft.laud to middle miami would be good stomping grounds
for me to get such work done in case anyone local can name a good shop

TIA

These guys get an occasional bad rap for their mail order parts but might have a genius mechanic who could rebuild yours. They're in Arcadia FL...

Rebuilds are a nice way to go but, judging by the year of your car it probably has 100K or more on it. Why not find a nice used low mileage engine from your local salvage yard? To do a correct rebuild you need to remove the engine anyway....My local yard sells complete engines (less accessories) for $150. It's hard to argue with that price and they are gauranteed for 60 days.

so far i've been quoted 650 and 750 for a pulled used engine

the one for 750 had like 90k
they didn't give miles for the 650 yet

maybe i better let my fingers do the walking and see if i can find a 150 used engine here (south florida).... the u pick it would have engines for 150/200 but you have to pull it yourself and FIND it..most of their cars are picked like vultures got em ..hehe...and pulling a motor in a junkyard is a daunting task i doubt i'd want to do.. (being honest here:P)

if you have a chance, post the info/contact for the local yard in michigan
with freight (the engines are small) i'd still be doing better getting one shipped even

thanks for info.

odo died at about 78k in 1998...so not sure exact mileage on mine
guessing by typical driving i do..which wasn't all that high maybe additional 40-50k so 125k or 130k tops...not too high ...i figured the car for more
too bad i didn't realize in time what was up with the timing chain tensioner etc.

the only other drawback was the front seal leaked alot of oil, maybe a quart a week or 10 days...it was easier to add oil than for the time being than fix it but it was on the list

The yard I buy my stuff from is also a self service yard. That explains the price delta.....

I went on www.car-part.com and found an 92 SOHC in Lakeland Fl with 65,000 for $350 at Auto Parts Pros 1-863-665-7278. The website came up with 6 pages of places with engines available. Should be able to find something reasoanable.
