Default Help-can't turn clutch master cylinder

1999 Saturn SL. I'm replacing the clutch hydraulics and the new master cylinder will not turn and attach to the firewall. I just took the old one off so I know I'm tightening in the right direction and that it only has to go 1/4 turn. It turns just a little bit and then becomes very tight. The old one came off easy but it was OEM, this is a Dorman CC649000. I've put a little silcone grease on the "threads" of the new one but it hasn't helped. Has anyone run into this or does anyone have any suggestions? I'm stuck.

Look at the 2 parts and see what is different, correct as required.

I did but didn't see any difference. However you're right, there must be something. I'll check more carefully, thanks.

Look for scratches on the plastic of the new master? If it is catching somewhere, there should be small scratches where it makes contact

You need to push in and turn at the same time. Kind of like a child proof pill bottle.

It took a little judicious shaving with a razor blade and pushing in as I turned and then it went on. Everything is back together and it's easy to get into gear again. I used all your advice - thank you.
