Default 1994sw1 wagon/high idle then low idle

Hi all. I have a question. Am new here and hoped I could get some help. I got a sw1 with the 1.9 4cyl. Lately its been idilin low. At stop signs, at crank up in morning, etc, etc. But whats weird is it also will jump up to a high idle as well sometimes. Weird. I put new plugs, new plug wires, air filter. The car has about 180k now. Its always used mobil 1 and oil changes are done exactly on time for years. Anyway, the computer is not able to give a code they said at advance or wherever my girlfriend took it. She said they told her it was broke and needed to be replaced for 3 or 4 hund to be able to read any codes. Anyway, any help, advice, instructions would be seriously appreciated. THANKS!!

I can't believe how many people in the auto industry don't know the difference between OBDI and OBDII and when they changed over. '91-'95 Saturns are OBDI where you check codes with a paper clip, '96+ are OBDII and can be checked at the parts store.

As for the high/low idle, sounds like it's the throttle position sensor though I'm not sure if the normal diagnostic procedure works on the '91-'94 SOHC's like yours.
...
The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)
