Default Possible Trans swap donor car

Hello,
I have a line on a 2001, SL2 with manual transmission. Thinking if I get it for the right price this would be a decent parts car for my existing 1999 SC2 with a troubled automatic. A good swap?
Donor car has 143k, asking 750 bucks, will offer 400. Get it for 500.
Of course I will have other leftover pieces to help support my other Saturns
Before ultimately the car is junked.
My local PICKN pull had a manual transmission for $300 an additional $150 for supporting components with no guarantees.
This way I get the complete running driving car.
Any thoughts?

It's a good way to get the mechanical bits, but it won't get you a PCM that works properly with a 5spd transmission in the '99. They changed in '00.

I think the in-car shift tower is different from 2nd to 3rd gen, not sure if it's incompatible or just mounts slightly different requiring basic metalworking tools (mainly a drill, possibly a cutting tool).

Couldn’t I just use the PCM that comes with the manual transmission car?
Transfer all into my 99 SC2 ?
Or won’t work? Bummer , just thought of looking at the swap guide which I did you are correct sir

00-02 PCM is totally different. Different connectors, has a BCM, etc. That won't work.

If you don't care about codes you don't even need to swap it though.

Everything else should swap no issues. You'll have to rig something up for hanging the (remote) reservoir for the clutch cylinder but that's simple enough.

I've done it several times on several generations. Never had to do anything special crossing parts from different years, except for the 1991 which is a whole other thing.

The 99 model is a bit of an odd ball. It is GEN2 however the engine has the narrow head that is in GEN3. The exhaust manifold is a bit different as there is no air pump. So for your purpose the interior bits and pieces of the 2000-02 models are not compatible. The PCM/BCM is not compatible as the 99 only has a PCM. The exterior bits and pieces are not compatible as they changed the body in 2000.

If you go the other way; 96-98 models have some differences too but it is more compatible than the GEN3 is.

I guess it depends on what parts you want out of a parts car. I was lucky, I found a 99 parts car for my 99 SL2. Everything was compatible and I was able to do a auto to manual swap and interior swap. Grey leather to black cloth. The only thing that didn't work is the parts car didn't have a sunroof. I managed to find what I needed elsewhere.
