Default Radio cuts out...

Why is it when I crank up my stereo, it powers off and I have to power off the radio and turn it back on? Both my 2's basic CD system and my 3's advanced audio system do this?

Am I alone here?

I've got the CD-tape system and I haven't noticed it..........and I play the music pretty loud, but not full throttle
Just how loud do you mean when you say crank up???
Maybe the Ion does't like your style of music

Almost full volume, but it cuts out before it even gets there

Nope. No problem hear ..... I mean here.

As horrible as it sounds, I cranked the CD player up to full & went there.

I tried it with Avril, Baha, Pink, Ketchup, Pumpkins, Shania and even my son's Eminem

I also tried both a store bought CD and one my son burned himself from MP3s, (a practice which I do not, of course, condone)

Seriously, it sound like crap, but it certainly did not cut out.

Thanks for trying ION, I must be losing my mind. Now I'm wondering if it has to do with the Bazooka install (but that wouldn't explain the 3 doing it, no Bazooka)

By the way, if anyone has some good suggestions with regard to upgrading the sound in the Ion (mine was not avail with the optional upgrade) it will be appreciated.

I'm assuming door mount Saturn tweeters and some sort of sub woofer and amp would be a good start, but I've been away from doing audio upgrades for about 15 years and want the best bang for the buck approach.

I have an amplified 8" Bazooka, which adds some low end that was an easy install. I know that the rear factory speakers are 6 1/2" two ways. Dunno if the doors are two ways though, have yet to remove the panels.

since IONs dont usually come with 2 way speakers, if one is, then the other must, because isnt there a sound upgrade package?

I don't have your problem, but I have a problem with the volume control knob missing a lot.

You will turn the knob, then it won't be doing anything after a certain point as you turn it, then you try it again and it works. I am not going to bother getting it fixed, as I see it as a way to prevent myself from blowing my eardrums out, although it can be pretty annoying.

I think it's just not very responsive. I have to really turn mine a lot, once it gets past a certain point. For instance, it's fine at low volumes. But at highway speeds with the windows down, i have to really turn the knob a lot to get it to make a difference.

I don't think it's just yours.

I don't have the power cutting off at loud settings.

I believe the 3 has 4 coax speakers and the 1 and 2 have 4 two ways.

With my factory CD changer unit it is really loud and the volume clicks on each notch and you can go to no sound and keep spinning, but one click up makes it go up a bit.

I wish I had the advanced audio with two tweeters and a sub, but I can go aftermarket if needed. Hooking up the mp3 portable is a snap and the CD changer works well.

Mine does the same. It is as if it is some kind of a "soft control" rather than an actual potentiometer like in the old days. You can turn it infinatetly in either direction, much like the tuning dials have been for years now. I don't think it is a problem.
