Default 2005 Saturn Ion Transmission Questions

Hey! I have a 2005 Saturn Ion 2.2L 5spd manual. I am trying to find out how to change my transmission fluid and how to fill, and how much to fill it.. Anyone out there know?

Thank You!

A few things I would add are: 1. make sure you can remove the fill bolt before draining the fluid. 2. clean the area around both the fill and drain bolts really well so no crud gets in with the new fluid. 3. I used Amsoil fluid in mine made my shifts much easier from almost the minute I changed it out. 4. make sure you have a funnel that you can get the fluid into the fill hole ( I used an old bottle of gear oil with the bottom cut off and it worked well. 5. Unless the 05 is different from my 04 there is no need to remove a wheel.

the GM manual transmission fluid is different than the dex III fluid that came in our transmissions. it's significantly improved. the GM manual transmission fluid is the ONLY fluid in existence that's to be used in our transmissions.

Amsoil manufactures the best trans fluids imho. I went to a local dealer and he showed me in the Amsoil book which fluid they recommended in my vehicle. I then inquired at Bobistheoilguy. You can use what you want, I will go with what the guys at Bobistheoilguy.com recommend. Bottom line, it shifts perfectly now. And to be honest you could probably put almost anything in these trannys, they are pretty tough. I just don't feel the need to support my local GM dealer just because "they said so".
