2004 ION Red Line
Default ION Redline wing replacement

I was just wondering, for you folks out there with Redlines, are any of you planning on switching out for the wing that's pictured in all the ads once it's finally available or will you keep your "conversative" flat wing?

I for one plan on switching mine out because the flat one just seems a little too plain for the Redline.

BTW, has anyone noticed that the Cobalt pictures have the Redline wing on?

I believe the wing is available from aftermarket companies. It's called the Jetfighter. You can probably find it, give the company and product number to Saturn and have them buy paint it, if they don't mark it up to much since they'll get a supplier discount.

I think the Street Fighter wing also looks great on the RL

I am going to talk with the GM of my Saturn Retailer. At this festival he was there and said from now on all Red Line's built will have the RL wing.

I am getting the wing for the difference and installation.

I will also be buyin the bigger wing for my Red Line...you are right aeain...the flat spoiler on there now is just too plain. And i know damn well i am not going to some aftermarket company for it...i will wait for saturn to approve the one they are building and have them put it on.

Personally pissed me off when I found out it wasn't coming on the RL to begin with. It just completes the car with the more aggressive front.

Aeain, does the blue RL on your name show the wing?
<------------? I think I like mine the way it is, a bit understated. If it looks too big n ricey then it will tip people off that there's something different about my Ion and I like people thinking its just a run of the mill Saturn. I would like something to make it look different than a typical Ion though.

Yeah the wing isn't too big the gap between the trunk/wing is maybe 3 inches at most and it stays well below the roofline. I am still decidign on whether or not to get it.

Whats the point of the rear wing spoiler??? does it do anything other than add unneeded weight?

It weighs as much as the reg ION QC wing. But it is more of a look thing.

That kinda my point... If it doesn't do anything but add weight I would tend to suggest that it is exactly the oposite of sporty... honestly I perfer the Ions (all of them) without the spoiler, my wife likes 'em tho so who am I to say I guess. hehe

The ION looks weird without a spoiler.

Also, the flat wing is a pain in the butt when trying to clean and dry. My hand doesn't fit under it and I have to do towel acrobatics in order to get all the areas.

Debating on whether or not to get one. Upside is it adds to look, down side is people know your car is modded.

But the little one makes the car look like a sleeper.

I guess my definition of "RICEY" would be (on these subcompacts anyways, I'm sure they had a different term for it when big wings were used on the old Chryslers, GMs, Fords of yore-please don't ask me the definition of yore- ) an aftermarket accessory that looks excessively huge or excessively cartoonish and who's excessive look is not in direct proportion to its performance enhancement. Good examples are the sewage pipe/folgers can exhaust, rear wing that looks like you are pulling someone above you in an air glider, or body cladding that looks like something you cooked up in Jr. High detention class. "Ricer" I think gives homage to the Asian car manufacturers who started all this compact tuner craze. I guess on an American Car maybe we should call it hot-doger? Burgerer? American Pier? Any suggestions?

Hot doger sounds good.

I have decided on not getting the Red Line wing after consulting with a friend.

I like the optional wing for the Red Line, IMO it looks a lot better than the standard ION wing. The me the regular one makes the car look cheap. When I get mine I'll be getting it with the wing, even though it's a $650 option.
