I replaced both cylinder head gaskets, timing belt, water pump, etc. and accompanying components. When I started on it there was no check engine light or p1780 code. Now it runs fine but when the engine off and the key on I clear all codes and the codes stay gone untill I start the engine. Within a half of a second of starting the engine it sets a P1780 code.
"P1780 Park/Neutral Postion (PNP) Switch Circuit Engine Torque Signal Circuit" The only thing I can find on my scan tool is TCC release pressure is ON while sittin still in neutral and park, why? I'm not sure if that is right or not. If it is not could that be what is setting the code by keeping the torque converter engaged at all times? And what do I do to fix it? I've run into a brick wall and cannot seem to find an answer, I'm an engine man not an automatic transmission man. Any help would be appreciated, thank you. |

Well I found it, and i guess the TCC release pressure ON was correct, I was just thinking about it backwards.
Whoever designed this car did everything entirely backwards, I found out the TCM is located behind the passenger side cowling, there was a broken wire in the harness running from there preventing the tcm and ecm from communicating. A Saab engine with a GM name on it stuck in a Saturn, sickening... I guess there is a good reason they don't make these things anymore, good riddance to saab and saturn |
