Hello,
I am looking to purchase four new tires for a 2000 Saturn SL that I inherited from my daughter. Any opinions on tire brands, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Will be low to moderate use, snow driving (central Ohio), mainly back roads, limited stop and go city driving. Many Thanks, Harry |

Guys on the S series forum will probably have much better answers about what'll work on an S seris car than we'll have here.

You're going to get a million different opinions on this one, but here goes my opinion....
For a combination of price and longevity, you simply cannot beat the Toyo Extensa A/S. I've bought tires from just about every major tire manufacturer and have to say these are the best tires I've ever owned. Put them on last October and they tore through some wicked snowstorms we had last winter like a hot knife through butter. Depending on your size the last time I checked they range from between $58-63 each (that was at treadepot.com where I got mine and had a great experience). The tires have an 80,000 mile warranty and so far after having put around 5,000 miles on them they're wearing like iron - meaning no wear at all. Toyo has a rich history in supplying racing tires so it's no doubt why the quality is there. If you don't want to buy online a lot of local garages carry this brand of tire and can put them on for you. Besides great snow traction they're very solid with aggressive driving - meaning no sidewall roll when cornering tightly and no chirping or squeeling off quick starts or through corners. Let's just say I'll be buying these as replacement tires for as long as they keep making them - they're that good. BTW they're on both my 2000 LS1 and our KIA Sedona. |

I'm a fan of using www.tirerack.com when I'm looking for tires.
I can punch in the specs of my vehicle and it'll give me original equipment options. If the tires aren't OEM I can manually pick what I do have by size. I can then define what type of tires I'm looking for. Using the advanced search feature I can select the check boxes on what I am looking for. Even if you don't buy from Tire Rack they have some very useful survey and ratings information to decide how each tire compares to others in it's class. They also list current Tire Company Rebates so if you have a local tire shop do the work you can know which might be a little cheaper. |
