Brake or clutch master cylinder? How do you know they are bad?

The thermostat is pretty easy to replace. You just have to drain the coolant, unhook the lower radiator hose where it connects to the bottom of the engine, undo 2 bolts, and remove the housing. Swap the new thermostat into the housing, reassemble, and refill the coolant. Even for someone who doesn't know their way around a car, you should be able to do it within an hour with minimal tools. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Also, check out RichPin's videos on youtube, I'm sure he has some for the thermostat. Might have some for the master cylinder, too. If it's the clutch master cylinder, replace the whole sealed system, not just the master.

Pretty easy for the thermostat - only two bolts. Just make sure the bolt heads are clean and use penetrating oil first. Use a 8 pt socket. If you round off the head of the bolt you're looking at a PITA job. Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrCSJpbDCiI
