Default Cold Driving Noise - what is it

'95 SL2, 128K miles, 5-speed manual.

When engine and car are cold (say 45 degrees), until system is warm - perhaps 6 miles or so, when taking gradual left curves at modest speed, or when going over road irregularities that would tend to push up the right front wheel, I hear a sort of groan or growl sound from the passenger side. This is only when there is additional pressure on the right front wheel, and when the car gets warm, the noise goes away.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

I seem to remember a post from ssicarman that said that it was the bearings in the half axle shaft. You know that straight shaft coming out of the passenger side of the transaxle. I don't remember whether he said they could be lubed or not. I could also be suffering from a faulty memory.

Default Re: Cold Driving Noise - Top Engine Mount?

That looks like the issue, top engine mount. It has a finger width gap at the top and the rubber is cracked allowing metal-to-metal contact.

I guess part of my day tomorrow is now accounted for.

Any good reason to avoid the AdvanceAutoParts life-time warranty "Pioneer Products Engine Mount" for about $44 + tax with in-store pickup?
