Default Body parts swapping?

I was just wondering are any of the body parts swappable? I am looking for a carbon fibre hood. I found a website that sells but not for my Generation SLx. They do sell them for the same generation SCx. Could i just buy the SCx hood and fit it on SLx? The hoods are oem style hoods.

Also and infos on swapping quater panels, bumbers side mirrors etc would be appreciated.

It will bolt up and latch down, the wont line up with the front fascia. Thats where the difference lies between all model S-Series.

1991-1995 SL, SL1, SL2, SW1, SW1 and 1993-1996 SC1 hoods interchange.
1991-1996 SC, SC2 hoods interchange
1996-1999 SL, SL1, SL2, SW1, and SW2 hoods interchange
1997-2002 SC1 and SC2 hoods interchange
2000-2002 SL, SL1, SL2, SW1, and SW2 hoods interchange

1996-2002 SL, SL1, SL2, SW1, and SW2 hoods may interchange, but have never tried it myself.

Low Saturn should know. I bet I could him a box of parts and a few days and he could come up with some sort of complete "S" series.

I think the SC mirror are more triangluar then SL/SW mirrors, but I dunno if it affects mounting.

The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)

We honestly have at least three complete sets of first gen sedan body panels.

We're also in the process id dissassembling another Saturn, our fifth one. My brothers 1992 SL2. It had a rough life. Previous owner treated it pretty bad then it was stolen a couple years ago and launched off a small hill. The car still drove and looked fine, but the frame is slightly tweaked and could never get alligned right. So its parts are coming off and several of them are going into a 1994 SL2.

I've been giving my brother a bad time about it too. I was telling him the other day that hes using parts from a $500 car to fix another $500 car. Thats like using the heart out of a 89 year old man to transplant into another 89 year old man. Its a lateral move at best. At least the 1994 Sl2 has a rebuilt engine in it. We originally bought the car for our grandfather. He needed something more reliable than the Taurus wagon he was driving. He passed away last November so we got the car back and my brother is driving it now.

While this is how I did it, it may not be the best or correct way to do it.

I cut out the pocket in the door panel so I had a rectangular hole. Then I took a somewhat thin piece of plastic and riveted it to the back of the door panel across the rectangular opening. I made sure I countersunk the face of the panel for the rivet heads. Then I took and extra door panel and cut out a section to fill the hole leaving a small gap around the perimeter. The section I cut out of the donor panel was right next to the door handle to keep the same contour. Then I riveted that into place. Again countersinking the heads. Then I filled everything in with a two part flexable urethane bumper filler. Then sand, prime and paint.

Keep in mind I did this on our dragster so it doesnt see the daily abuse that a regular car would. But at the same time, we're not that carefull with it. We've removed the panels several times, it gets banged around loading the car onto and off the trailer. I did the rear door handles, passenger side door handle and lock hole, the drivers side lock hole (keeping a functional door handle) and the gas filler door.

In this picture you can see the gas filler door, rear handle and front lock hole filled:

And heres the passenger side:

This was shortly after we put the car back together after painting it in our backyard in our metal framed, tarp enclosed "booth". Came out pretty good for a bunch of amatuers.

thanks for the great info. I was actually gonna use one of those cylinoid kits that opens your door for you use a remote or hidden button. Shave all 4 door handles. But still have woorking doors.

So the hood from a 1997 sl will not fit onto a 2001? they look the same? The only difference that I see between the 2001 front nose and the 1997 is the lower shape and the side marker lights. If you installed a 1997 nose and hood on a 2001 it would not fit? It does not make sense. has anyone tryied this?

I know this is a very old thread and discussion. I was doing a search for a Front Driver LF Fender for a 1997 Saturn SC1 Coupe, and I came across this thread on the SaturnFans website.

My question is, what other Saturn Vehicle has a swappable or compatible Front Left Fender to my 1997 Saturn SC1 Coupe.

Thanks in advance for your assistance in advance.
ps. Nice Saturn race car.
