Default Tranny Identification question

Car : 1996 Sl1 96K miles

Had a blown differential pin. Replaced the tranny. 2 Codes:
P0732 Incorrect Gear ratio 2
p0733 Incorrect Gear ratio 3

Major reverse slam along with a hard shift around 5 mph

Clean terminals at the battery:
Voltage at battery with car off: 12.23
Voltage at battery with car on: 13.96 (no loads)

Greater than one volt but I dont think its a small enough difference to cuase the the DTC's

So thinking about it I thought just maybe the tranny is the wrong one. Looked at the identification on the bell housing:
WMP6125020

What does the W mean?
I noticed it got a paint job as it was a nice clean gray and you could see where the paint didnt get to
Could it be I got sold the wrong transmission???

I believe the "W" stands for the 1996 model year, But I would have to verify that when I get home.

But I think it goes like this:

w = 1996
x= 1997
y = 1998
z = 1999
0 = 2000
1 = 2001
2 = 2002

I read someplace on this forum that the selector disc on the side of the tran. under the brake fluid res. can be adjusted for elec. current. I think it said it can be checked at the two post on top where there is a single black wire and
the other post has nothing on it. If you can't find the thread, let me know and I'll dig around for it.

Thank you very much low!

Well it seems i was given the wrong transmission. I should have checked the id number before i even touched it.

a '98 tranny simply wont work in a '96 car. wonderful
