Default Help, 2008 Saturn Vue (I4) 2.4L died on road.

Hello all,

For the first time, I seem to need help. Got a Saturn 2008 Vue, that just "died" on me... While on the road, 5 minutes before it died, it was making a sound like "a heat-shield was vibrating" going along with revs (more rev more of a metal shield sound) also was DOWN on power...

I *thought* I got off time... seems like ecotec I4 have bad tensioners for timing chains. Only codes I have are P0011 and P0013. And restarting makes horrible metal crunchy sounds. after 2-3 tries, and it did turn over, but no start, with a 2000Amp jumper, and on the 3 attempt, terrible metal noise on cranking so I stopped and got it towed, on its on, it doesn't start or turn... could be something "stopping it from turning over" or weak battery but that is secondary.... a starter is not the issue... Remember the engine died while on the road...

So going with my "timing off" idea, I removed valve cover, seems like timing chain is good. So I'm STUMPED! My next action will be to remove aux belt, and see if I can crank the engine from the bottom crank shaft...

Maybe alternator? will find out once I remove the belt and attempt a manual crank... 720' to see if any obstructions and validate timing belt marks.

Anyone have any experience? I'm stump... picture of timing looks ok. Help!

As suspected, Timing Chain guide broke.

Now wondering if engine slipped off timing. And how badly...

I hope and pray no valve damage, will check timing marks from cam, looking for 10am - 2pm marks...

Can you post the miles on your engine? I'm just curious. Thanks
