Dizzy VUE front license plate bracket

I'm trying to install a front license plate bracket on a 2003 Saturn VUE and I'm lost. If anyone knows how to do this, here's where I'm stumped.

I have a plastic bracket and three "rivets" and two screws. According to the directions, I drill x number of mm in the bumper, and then insert the rivets, pointy end out. There's a washer like thing on the rivets. That washer like piece keeps me from pushing the rivets any further than half way in the bracket holes. Well, once the rivets are installed, that leaves their pointy sharp end still sticking out of the bumper. How do I insert a license plate like that?

And no, I haven't started drilling yet. I'm still staring at the instructions, wondering what the heck's going on. Anyone have a better clue than me? I purchased this bracket holder straight from the Saturn dealer and it has VUE on it, so I'm assuming it's the right part.

I install these things at work all of the time. Look at the bracket... you will see the words "Saturn VUE" upside down from all of the other words. Make sure that "Saturn VUE" is facing the correct way. There are 2 to 3 dimples in your bumpter (model year phaseover)... you need to align your bracket with those dimples and drill the holes out. Insert the rivets (are the provided ones metal or plastic? I prefer plastic because of you mess up you can pull them out semi-easily), use a rivet gun over the pointy end of the rivet to pop it closed. The pointy thing will break off once the rivet it expanded enough.
If you don't have the tools or are still not clear on getting this installed, head back to your dealer.. they should install it for free for you... it literally takes 1 minute if you have the tools and know what you are doing.
Good luck!

Rivet gun? Rivet gun!?! Well it all makes a lot more sense now. Guess it'll get installed on my next visit to the dealership.

They're not. The wife is from Vermont and wants her old Green Mountain plate on the front of her car.

Ahh... Our front plates are required here--I wish they weren't so we would have space to put what we wanted on the front

They are required here on Ohio. I have my metal plate in right now, but in the summer, I have a nice plastic and metal "Saturn" plate from the auto shows that I put in my bracket. I wish it weren't installed actually, because I would rather go with the smooth front look.. but oh well.

Really? When, who from, and were you happy with your delivery, service, and everything else? What model/equipment is yours? Depending on when it was purchased, I more than likely prepped and delivered it, or saw over the people that did it. And I might have driven yours before you did :P Please.. share your experience with me.

I have a silver FWD 5spd, ordered 30 December and picked it up Saturday, 8 February. It has pwr pkg and sport pkg, sunroof, abs, side airbags, cd player, alloys. Todd was the salesperson. I was very happy with the purchasing/delivery. Haven't needed service yet ( I only have 500 miles on it!). But I've dealt with the service dept before with my old 94 sc2, and I was quite satisfied.

I don't know who prepped it but it was very nice when I received it-- very clean and shiny

Hrm, judging by that it would have been Greg who prepped it, the other team leader. I was working the day you ordered it, but I would not have been there for delivery.. as I work the last 2 weekends of the month right now, and spend the first 2 here in Toledo for school. Todd's a good guy.. although we ahve went at it once or twice, but you should be in good shape. Our old service manager is back, also, after a 3 month haitus.. so our service department is running in tip top shape now too.
Congrats on the VUE!

I was just vacationing in Canada about six months ago... if I remember correctly they had front and rear plates in Ontario, but in Quebec they were only on the back?

Default Removal of front bracket

I'd like to remove my front license bracket. How do I get the rivets out? Looks like it takes a special tool.

I can't believe it would be that hard to do such a simple thing. Do you have to get the dealer to remove it just to transfer the car to a one-plate state?

Yes, that is true. They want to be distinct from the rest of Canada.

Use no larger than a 3/8 drill bit, and drill the head off of the rivet. If it is a metal rivet, be careful because it will grab and spin the rivet in the bumper, and you don't want to tear a hole in the front of your bumper. I usually throw the hardware package away, and grab some stainless steel bolts and plastic rivets, instead of Zinc bolts and metal rivets. The stainless bolts look nicer, and the plastic rivets are easier to drill out, and will break a little easier if you bump someone, therefore causing less damage to the front of your VUE.

Thanks for the info. Do you know of any way to attach the bracket without rivets? If they'd simply give us some conventional fasteners we could mount/dismount the bracket much easier (like other cars, maybe?).

I guess that would require an embedded threaded socket within the bumper. Is there any hardware that I can insert to do this?
