2004 VUE 3.5L
Default Vtec light?

Just thinking, how cool would it be to make that "vue" emblem that everyone pushes light up when vtec kicks in? Should be a pretty easy mod right? Just find the vtec wire and solder an LED on it?

I always liked this on the Celica GT-S where the gauge color changes when lift (VTEC) kicks in

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2K2c3QQgSA

I almost tried installing a VTEC light back on my old '05 actually. The solenoid is above the oil filter in the passenger side wheelwell. One wire to tap.

I don't know how I would have gone through with it tastefully, but I managed to figure that out with everything else

The VUE logo in the "tape deck" above the radio is a good idea

Thanks, I think I might give this a try.

From what I've read we should get vtec in neutral right? Just so I can test it.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram from the ECU for me? I'm looking for the Vtec solonoid wire. I think it would be easier to tap the line at the ecu rather than the solonoid itself.

Thanks in advance

These are what you'd want to make your gauges change colors. Need resistors for each positive lead, and a way to kill the one leg when the other turns on. After that, you're good.

It appears you need to be underway for VTEC to engage - here's service manual extract:

System Operation

The rocker arm oil control system is an electronically controlled, hydraulically operated system that provides good low speed torque and high speed horsepower. The engine control module uses an electronic solenoid to control the flow of oil to the rocker arms. In order to determine when to transition from low to high speed operation, the control module relies on the following information:

 Engine speed
 Engine load
 Engine operating temperature
 Vehicle speed

It's been said that most V6 powered Vues can't use VTEC in 1st as well, a GM gimp to protect some of their parts.

I think it'd be easier to grab the wire at the solenoid honestly.

I don't understand what a capacitor inline will do other then cause a light to not light unless its being fed AC??

This mod is complete cheese. Why not spend your precious monetary and time resources on doing something that actually increases performance? Vehicels have come along way in the past few years and the RL VUE is not really a "performance" vehicle anymore, it'll get smoked by all big V-8 mule pickup trucks and by most V6 CUV's these days.

Throw a bottle on the thing and have something light up when you hit the "go button".

This mod was free... it cost me 15 minutes of my time. I have hundreds of feet of wire laying around, and I took a bright blue led from a broken external hard drive case. I just need to mount it behind the dash now & I'll be done. If you owned a Vue, you would know how annoying the "Vue" emblem in the dash is - I had to make it do something.

I'm not sure what you mean by most trucks will kill it - I've yet to see a truck beat me.
