Honestly, if you want more power you should swap out for a v6... I know someone who picked up a J35 fir $300.00. A CAI isn't going to offer you "free" gains. You need to keep the filter oiled, and you need to let the filter sit for a day before driving. An exhaust will also offer you minimal improvements but not without cost, expect a few hundred dollars. I would talk to a shop about a custom exhaust setup, it's likely cheaper than buying a kit and trying to do it yourself. You can also check out K&N's website for CAI, do a search by vehicle - make sure you get the cold air intake and not just a filter.

And if you are really interested in CAI, you can build one yourself for far cheaper than you can buy one online. All you need is a universal intake pipe (something around 3") and put a K and N filter on it. Just make sure that you hook up everything back up right.

Most people use heat duct (you can get it at home depot). For maximum performance run the duct through one of your fog lights.

Here is the CAI for the VUE.

http://www.racepages.com/parts/cold_...aturn/vue.html

It's fairly useless. You won't get more power from it. The best thing for the money you can do is debong it. It'll get pretty much the same gains for no money at all.

But then you're stuck with the Honda fail-o-matic transmission. No thanks. I'll stick to rowing my own gears and give up the V6 power.

But as far as the original question goes, CAI really aren't all they are hyped up to be. De-bong it and use a drop-in K&N panel filter (keep a normal filter around to use when you need to wash and re-oil the K&N). I'd imagine that some new camshafts would do wonders for opening up power.

Also, the exhaust manifold is a choke point. A cheap upgrade is to use the manifold off a supercharged 2.2L.

^^Werd. And it's a direct bolt on for the stock manifold. I have mine on order.

Another cheap upgrade is the 2.4L Intake manifold, you loose 3-4 ft/lbs on the bottom end, but a true 10-12hp @ the wheel, is gained, on the top end. I have mine in the garage. I don't want to install it yet because I have to make a plate for the ECU to mount to. The VUE's ECU mounts to the intake, while the Cobalt/Ion's mount to the fire wall or other locations inside the engine compartment. I think I'll mount it very close to the rad support as the cabling is quite limiting.

Yes I know this wont give me huge gains..Ive already tried this experiment on my prelude..but! debongin it and opening up the air filter will give a it a little itty bitty response and a cooler sound..and thanks for the link..didnt think they were that expensive! tho maybe do it myself or just get a k & N filter and leave it..I talk to my drummer,s dad who runs a hot rod shop and was telling me all the stuff I can do..tho the cost would end up more than me getting a 2.2 supercharged cobalt or something..so..just wanted to put on a cai or a ramish air and open up the muffler..Im not going to get into new cams or mannies.....thanks for the diff advise..
btw where is the bong on the 2.2??? is it behind the engine between the firewall like on my prelude or????

Nope, it's in the passenger's side fender/front bumper area. The easiest thing to do is remove the front bumper and yank it out. It should only take 30-40 minutes to do, including removal and reinstall of the front bumper cover. The hardest part is finding all the clips that hold it on. Besides that, it's a breeze.

I have a AEM for an ION in mine. I had to put a SHORT filter on it that I bought at advanced auto (also at pepboys) The filter sits right behind the fog light grille. It really sounds good and is relatively quiet until you stomp it. I can make people turn and look if they are walking. The only mod I had to do to make it fit was to bend the mounting bracket so it sits straddling the sheet metal in the core support. I'll see if I can post a photo later, things seem to be acting up.

Fujita CAI:

Perfect fitment. Loss in low end power, minimal gain in top end. LOTS of intake noise.

I liked it.

Better late reply than never, right?

The Fujita is direct bolt in with the hole for the IAT and PCV tube.
